Enjoy their drive ins- an activity of a bygone era
May 2021
My overall experience of the Galileo can only be described as amazing. From the organisation, to the setup, to the equipment, to the aura of the drive in. Visited the Durbanville branch and got to witness the beauty of the surroundings, whilst the stars were out as well. A magical experience!

Outstanding evening!
Feb 2020 • Friends
The outdoor movie is set up in stunning locations. Very organized!!! Got VIP pkg with included reserved seats, packed seats with back for lawn, blanket, popcorn, soda and lg bar of chocolate for R190 pp. Variety of tasty food from vendors set up and beer/wine also available for purchase. Some brought their own picnic supper. All in all a highly recommended way to spend an evening.

Birthday under the stars
Dec 2019 • Friends
We were a crowd of 14, who celebrated a friend’s birthday at the Cape Town Battery park venue. We arrived 2 hours early and enjoyed drinks and a picnic. You can bring your own snacks and refreshments or buy from the excellent food stalls. A very memorable evening!!

What an amazing night on our trip to Cape Town
Nov 2018 • Friends
Had just 4 nights in Cape Town during our 2 week stay in the Cape and we chose this for one of the nights......not disappointed. What a great way to spend an evening with friends, good quality drinks and food.

Our event was at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, which must be one of the best sites. You can bring your own food and go basic, or got VIP and reserve a space, seat and get some goodies thrown in. All very flexible, friendly and good fun.

Definitely do this on our next trip back.

Great evening
Apr 2018 • Couples
My partner purchased tickets to this out at a winery on a Tuesday night for my birthday. We had VIP seats which was perfect. The VIP seats are in the middle of the viewing area with designated seats labelled for you, ours said "sean" and "sean's friend" which I thought was amusing. Also included in the VIP is the seat and backrests, blanket, popcorn, chocolate and a can of soft drink.

I really enjoyed the evening and would highly recommend it.

Word of warning!
Dec 2017 • Family
We saw a Xmas movie Dec 25th last year and booked VIP tickets and thoroughly enjoyed the experience
This year however things were done a little differently and I don’t think it worked so well

I set about booking the tickets online just as I had last year and realised that there were no VIP Tickets on sale this year ( vip tickets included backrest and blanket and a few treats to eat plus reserved spaces at the front near the screen clearly marked with your name) instead all tickets were “ Xmas package” which appeared to be open seating for all plus a backrest and blanket and something to eat
I entered my details .... selected four persons ( for me and husband and two kids) and was directed to another page asking if I wanted veg or non veg option
Assuming this was for the previously mentioned “ treats” I selected two of each and entered my credit card details
On Dec 25th we turned up ( luckily with ample time to spare) only to be informed that according to their booking system we had not purchased entry tickets we had only purchased “ picnic hampers “ for the event !!!!
Cue two crying kids who had been so looking forward to the movie and two angry parents who couldn’t understand how the booking system could direct you to purchasing picnic hampers without first buying an entry ticket !
We asked if we could trade in the tickets for the unwanted hampers for entry tickets but was told the event was sold out ! Cue even louder crying from the disappointed kids !
We hung around trying to decide what to do and got chatting to a member of staff who told us this had been happening all evening .... people turning up thinking they had purchased entry tickets only to discover they had actually purchased an unwanted picnic hamper and now had no ticket to get in ! This made me mad so I asked to see the manager .... he wasn’t available but told gate staff we could come in if we paid for new tickets
Unfortunately we only had enough money on us to buy three tickets so hubby had to drive one hour round trip to go home for 150 rand for another ticket .....
The children and I went inside to what was now a very full grass area and couldn’t find a gap big enough for four people to sit together so asked a staff member for help ....
He walked us straight to the third row and sat us on the end in front of another family who up til this point had thought they had a clear view ....
Great move for us but felt bad for them ...
Hubby turned up just as the movie started but obviously had difficulty finding us ...
The movie was great but the whole experience obviously wasn’t the best ...
Collected our unwanted picnic hampers which we could not get a refund on and gave to the family behind as way of an apology for spoiling their view .....
Would like to reccomend to Galileo to do reserved seating ( it worked so well last year) and to spend time and money improving your website and booking system ....

Concept and movies are great hence the five star rating but please Galileo go back to being as good as you were last year !

Perfect evening under the stars at Kirstenbosch
Nov 2017 • Friends
This was our second visit to a Galileo Open Air Cinema experience which was great fun. Kirstenbosch is a fantastic location for this kind of event with good facilities (plenty of toilets and parking) as well as only being a short distance from downtown Cape Town. The organisation on this occasion was much improved to our experience last year with a more proactive approach from the Galileo team.

The food vendors were really great - this year we did not bring a picnic. The coffee was really good!

We went for the VIP experience again and having a reserved spot avoids having to arrive too early. My only comment for improvement is that the blankets provided in the VIP area aren't very warm. The standard blankets look more practical!

We will definitely give this a go again next year. Thanks!

Hi Andy, Thank you so much for your review, and we'll definitely pass your kind comments on to our vendors. We try improve every year, and we can only do that with your valuable feedback, so we know what to work on. I have sent your feedback regarding the blankets to our Operations Manager and will add to our improvements list. Thanks for joining us, and we hope to have you back soon. The Galileo Team

Perfect night out for a couple
Mar 2017 • Couples
I attended the Spier (stellenbosch) location for the Galileo.

NB: The most important factor is wind and rain.
If there are clear skies you promised a decent experience.
There is some nice snacks being sold on-site.
When I attended there was coffee, popcorn, candy floss and more.

As part of the charge they hand you a blanket and chair (if you purchased the tickets that includes that chair and blanket)

I would say this is a must. Usually you will sit on grass and it could be moist.

The movie was easy to see and hear.
I suggest coming early and sitting towards the front of the screen. This will make it easy to see, hear and to leave if need be.

Open Air Relaxation
Apr 2017 • Couples
We attended the screening of the De Caprio version of Titanic which was held at the Meerendal Wine Estate. The venue was very good and there was plenty of food available. On arrival you receive a foldout flat seat with backrest as well as a blanket. In terms of the outdoor theatre is was a wonderful evening with some good entertainment before the movie. As we had brought our own picnic basket we didn’t need to order food. I did however want popcorn but as the electricity kept on tripping for the guy who was doing the popcorn, I eventually gave up on that.
Also, the toilet facilities were not enough for the number of people that were there.
Overall it was an evening well worth the money spent.

Hi Tony, Thank you for taking the time to review us. We're so glad that your overall experience was a good one! We are working with Meerendal to rectify the toilet situation, as well as the electrical problems. We hope you'll be back next season to see how we've improved :) The Galileo Team
