The Springbok Experience was nominated for the International Award in the 2014 Museum + Heritage Awards in the UK after opening on SA's Heritage Day in September 2013. It is a world-class, modern interactive museum telling South Africa’s story through the eyes of its most powerful sport. It's a fun and entertaining experience for the whole family and is a ‘must-do’ attraction at the heart of the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. The museum features more than 60 audiovisual displays where visitors can watch the history of South African rugby unfold, set among cases displaying historic objects such as famous trophies, jerseys, boots and other memorabilia. It makes a perfect venue for exclusive corporate events as well. And there are games for children and adults alike where they can test their kicking, passing, fitness and reaction skills in the interactive ‘Springbok Trials’ games zone. There’s also a flagship Springbok Concept Store for those who just want to shop. The Springbok Experience is a museum – but much more than that.If you’re wondering what to do in Cape Town, you must visit the Springbok Experience.

I have never watched an entire rugby match. So keep this in mind. However I found the museum very interesting . And remember how the game was intertwined with their apartheid history . This is reflected by some exhibits , and they still have the original Cecil Rhodes Cup ( trophy ) displayed. Worth a visit , especially on hot... More

We spent a couple of hours here one lunchtime. It was informative and interesting. There were some interactive options which gave us a good laugh - and no - we will not be picked for the Springboks!

The Interactive area was superb, I just wish my grandsons could have been with me. They would have loved it. Having grown up with the Apartheid era and the damage it caused to SA rugby, when they won the World Cup in 1995, I was so pleased and this momentous achievement is well represented in the Museum. I was lucky... More

Dear ukcoupleBucks What a delightful message, thank you so much for this. You are just going to have to return some day with your grandsons so that they can go through the Experience. We were all devastated with Joost's passing as many of us worked with him over the years and were party to his many pranks. Thank you once... More

Dropped into the museum on recommendation from a friend. After finding the location (thanks to the rugby posts outside!) we went in and straight away tried our hand at the interactive games - a fun way to start the tour. Moving through the museum is interesting and highlights the political development of South Africa through sport as well as showcasing... More

Although not a Rugby fanatic, a visit to this museum will show you haw passionate South Africans are about the sport. It provides a historical journey of how the sport was brought to South Africa right through to how the sport was used as a vehicle to end the Apartheid system in South Africa.
