The Springbok Experience was nominated for the International Award in the 2014 Museum + Heritage Awards in the UK after opening on SA's Heritage Day in September 2013. It is a world-class, modern interactive museum telling South Africa’s story through the eyes of its most powerful sport. It's a fun and entertaining experience for the whole family and is a ‘must-do’ attraction at the heart of the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. The museum features more than 60 audiovisual displays where visitors can watch the history of South African rugby unfold, set among cases displaying historic objects such as famous trophies, jerseys, boots and other memorabilia. It makes a perfect venue for exclusive corporate events as well. And there are games for children and adults alike where they can test their kicking, passing, fitness and reaction skills in the interactive ‘Springbok Trials’ games zone. There’s also a flagship Springbok Concept Store for those who just want to shop. The Springbok Experience is a museum – but much more than that.If you’re wondering what to do in Cape Town, you must visit the Springbok Experience.

Like Wales and New Zealand South Africa's love of Rugby Football is excessive. This tour through South African rugby history, the good and the bad, the victories and the losses is well laid out and even my wife, whose no rugby fanatic, liked it. Small in scale, but big in history this rugby experience is a little gem.

A fantastic museum. Explains the commitment the South Africans have to the game of Rugby, all through the apartheid days into that famous Mandela final. A great story told by Francois Pienaar relating to Mandela on the day of that World Cup final which I won't spoil. Even my wife enjoyed it and ended up buying a shirt for herself!

My 9 year old son and I visited here as we didn't want to go shopping with the girls(!) It's a well appointed museum and was great to see trophies and old shirts as well as to learn about the history of SA Rugby. Sadly after 20 mins or so there was a power cut and all the lights went... More

I actually stumbled across this museum when leaving the V&A and ended up spending the afternoon exploring it. It is is really informative with most of the displays at a high standard. One of the best features was the interactive skills facility - you really need to have a crack at that.

This is nice museum for people who don't like the "typical" museum. The first part is interactive, where you can try your best at some rugby moves. The second part is informative and show some beautiful historical pieces, but also some videos. Very nice for all ages, except when you don't like rugby.

Dear LeidsHertje We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the museum. I have to agree with you that it is not your "typical" museum but so much more with the interactive games and what is great is the way that we tell the story of South Africa through a medium like rugby. Makes it so much more interesting. Thank... More
