The atmosphere at the Baxter theatre is soulful. It brings the true feeling of what Cape Town is about. The performing artists are talented and we need to appreciate local talent.

What a beautiful building! We were there for some Stand Up, but the venue is really magnificent and needs a good explore when its open. The finishes are absolutely exceptional and in spite of being almost 50 years old show no, to limited, wear and tear. As a design example I think it is remarkable and worth going to see some theater / music / comedy just to be able to walk around and appreciate it

We had seen the original production Aunty Merle, so I was not keen to see the sequel as I thought that it would be much of a muchness. This was until we received glowing reviews, friends booked tickets. This show was amazing, sharp, witty with an overly generous serving of slapstick. The musical production was world class with great choreography and directorship. The venue supported the production well except during the interval break when it took the entire break to stand in the queue just to get a drink. The ice cream stand closed before the end of break so this did not help. Management should address this problem.

A great venue. I have seen two stand up comedy shows here in two different rooms. Both were brilliant. Nice to have a drink at the bar beforehand as well.

Show starts later to coincide with midnight countdown. They use a scanning system that was problematic and caused delays. Eventually they abandoned scanning and let us in. This delayed the show start with 15 minutes, which caused a VERY short interval. The end of the show ended with about 30 seconds to midnight . Otherwise a great venue. Comfortable seats and ample parking up the road.

The One Who Sings is the most powerful story to come out of South African work, written and performed by the super phenomenal Zolani Mahola. The depth and honesty of this work and rawness of life and being a South African icon reminds us to celebrate life and reflect on our story of it. I am begging you to request that this is filmed and for it to become part of the curriculum of schools Life Orientation. There is such a powerful story here mixed with music and imagery that leaves you the audience with powerful reflection on the amazing women of South Africa who celebrate life, its challenges and the key to the story, being honest and reclaiming your identity and life. Speechless celebration of life.

The Baxter makes the arts accessible for the person in the street.... Just watched the insightful 'Chris van Wyk: Storyteller of Riverlea'. What a story and the way it has been told by the talented Zane Meas. World class. So glad I did not let the rain and wind get in the way of me going to the Baxter and watch this story of a real person in a real township in the South Africa of yesteryear. Stories like those need to be told.

One of my favourite theatres to visit! The cafeteria serves good pre-theatre dinners. Great for night out with the girls!

If you’re like me and have to check a theater review before you go watch the show, well can humbly request you to STOP RIGHT NOW!! This production isn’t for that. Aunty Merle is a fantastic theater production. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry, it will make you sympathy’s with the characters emotions while being angry at the antagonist. I believe is a very great musical and the fact that there is a live band makes it all the more exciting. They ending needs a bit of work but all and all it was Amazing.
