Dodgy area, felt unsafe, no visible police deterrrent to the hawkers and rip off car park attendants.
Coloured houses ok but nothing amazing

Unlike District Six, another working class neighborhood close to the city center, Bo-Kaap was not demolished by the city's bulldozers in the 1960s. Though Bo-Kaap as well was affected by the Apartheid Groups Area Act and all non-Malays were forced out. By the way against the will of the majority Malay inhabitants.

Nowadays the neighborhood is going through a process of gentrification. Prices of the traditional colourful 'huurhuisjes' (rental houses) are going up as both location close to the city center as well as the exotic character of Bo-Kaap are attracting newcomers. New apartments are also being built.

Still authentic enough to be an attractive place to visit.

Definitely worth a visit! The colored houses are beautiful and historic and offer wonderful photo opportunities. We were not sure if we needed a guide, but preferred to walk there by ourselves. The City Sightseeing bus drops you off downtown and then just walk up the hill and look for the colored houses!

Worth a visit to see the gorgeous homes and vivid colors, but when we were there there was no one around. There was one shop open (great place for gifts / souvenirs), but otherwise the area was very quiet. Maybe schedule your visit on a Saturday afternoon / evening.

We had lunch at this coffee shop and deli. I ordered a roasted veg wrap and my friend had a chicken caesar salad. The meals were freshly prepared and presented by a friendly, smiling waiter. The owner Munereba is at the venue and is hands on. Unfortunately I only remembered to take a pic after we finished our meals. Blame it on Covid I have not been out in a while

What a rich history to view and experience by just walking around this beautiful architecture and vibrant colors.

Walked around with our young kids and felt very safe and welcomed by the friendly residents!

I am glad that I went to see the Bo Kaap for myself, it truely is a beautiful area, but it is sad that rubbish was laying everywhere and that it is not maintained to tourist attraction standards.

It's a dangerous place, people haggling you for money, asking to watch over your car (unofficial) locals here have signs on their houses to protect the area (from what), I don't know.

We were brought here by our tour guide and it is worth a brief visit if you are passing. The houses are colourfully painted but there isn't a great deal to do once you have taken a few pictures.
