We were in Capetown for a wedding, but were able to sneak out for a few hours for Gamiedah"s Malay cooking class, even with a brown-out in progress. (No electricity). To my surprise, she taught us how to make ROTI. I have been trying for 15 years to make them. Most places in the US just use tortillas instead. We also learned to make curry chicken, samosas, and a vegetable croquette. The food was delicious and easy to make. Even more impressive was her exuberant personality, the cleanliness of her house, and her knowledge of Malay history. I highly recommend her cooking class for everyone.

Gamidah welcomed us to her home and taught us how to make a basic, but very authentic Malay meal. I really appreciated her explanation of the spices -- her blend is truly chef's kiss. She told us where to buy the most important ingredient, the Mother-In-Law curry blend. Best of all -- it is sold in the spice shop across the street! She later sent us the recipes for which we are very thankful. Her special blend of spices is really what makes this meal. I also appreciated her in depth explanation of how to make Roti. Thanks to her help -- I think I can actually master making this particular flatbread. We were a group of six experienced cooks and fit perfectly in her kitchen. This was a highlight of our trip.

My daughter and I so enjoyed our morning with Gamidah.
I am a chef and even I found her completely and utterly fascinating. She is certainly experienced and you can see that she absolutely loves what she does.
She is well prepared, enthusiastic and has a huge generosity of spirit.
Her roti and simple chicken curry recipes are a winner.

Wow! what an amazing experience we had with Gamiedah at Lekka Kombuis.
She is an excellent teacher and has a huge personality that goes with it.
We were 5 ladies celebrating a birthday and she taught us how to make roti, chilli bites and fold samosas.
I recommend her 100% and we can't wait to try out what she taught us.

Gamidah was an amazing Bo Kaap walking tour guide! She tells the story of the Muslim community in Cape Town from slavery to present time. The experience was topped off by a cooking lesson in her beautiful and historic Bo Kaap home. Gamidah is a person of joy and lightness and spending time with her is a wonderful experience. Also, curry!!

I had a wonderful time at Gamidah ‘splace. The workshop was customised and we made some samosas, chilli dumplings, chicken curry and malva pudding. She told me all about the spices. I would recommend it to all interested in cooking.

On our first day in Cape Town we had the privilege of going to a cooking class in Bo Kaap. Our hostess, Gamidah, was welcoming and friendly. We enjoyed working with her to prepare a delicious Malaysian lunch (she did most of the work) and we loved learning about her, her family, her historic neighborhood. It was the best cooking class I have ever attended and my reluctant husband thoroughly enjoyed himself.

We were looking to have a fun local and cultural experience and heard wonderful things about Gamidah and her class. So happy we decided to reserve this amazing class with our new friends we met along the way on the Franschhoek Wine-Tram. The four of us had an absolute blast! Gamidah welcomed us into her beautiful home located in the historic Bo-Kaap area. Gamidah was full of energy, knowledge, chopping skills along with some pretty sweet squatting moves acquired from her years of playing squash! Loved learning all about the history of Cape Malay, the spices, their way of life through history and food. It was a ton of laughs, learning and hands-on fun. The food we all prepared together was absolutely delicious and she sent us home with recipes to try our hand at it back home. Could not recommend this class more! Do it…and if you can add the spice shop tour with it. You will not regret it!

My wife and I have done cooking classes all over the world. We feel it's a great boots on the ground way to learn about local people, food, and culture. This experience did not disappoint. We will definitely be incorporating these recipes at home. The best part is when you taste it at home and it brings back the memories.

Thank you Gamidah. We had a wonderful time meeting you and your family. We enjoyed listening to your stories and of course the yummy treats in the kitchen. I think the Chili Bites and Samosas were my favorite.

I was very excited going into this class and it certainly did not disappoint! We arrived 15 minutes early and Gamidah welcomed us into her house and made us feel right at home. The course itself was amazing and very hands on. We made delicious samosas, golden, crisp chilli-bites, sambals, rotis and a fragrant Cape Malay chicken curry. Highly recommend it!
