- FRITZ S2 contributionsORIGINAL AND FUN SHOP!This gem of a shop was a fantastic recommendation by a fellow traveller we met on Table Mountain. I have never written a review before but after the assistant asked us for one, I decided to make the effort as we were just so super impressed with this shop. From the moment you walk in there we loved the friendly colourful atmosphere. Compliments to the curator for their excellent choise of mostly handmade South African gift and decor items. It is very different from any of the other stores we went into. It felt fresh and original and we got all our gifts here. They have an excellent selection of limited edition prints by South African artists and we bought quite a few. We also loved their range of handmade leather journals and cushions. Keep it up!Visited February 2023Written 29 March 2023
- imboglio4 contributionsUnique boutique, a hidden gemGavin and Balthazar’s boutique is lovingly curated with handmade crafts by local artisans, well represented from across the demographics and gender identites of the Cape. It’s a step away from the commercial touristic trinkets and produced by talented artists with unique visions and techniques, working, for example, with soap stone or cow bone. It was a surprise to stumble upon it in an otherwise centrally located mall, Cape Quarters, so it felt like discovering a hidden gem. Highly recommended for the thinking visitor who wishes to support LGBTQ artisans and the wider community. So glad you stumbled on our shop! The shop is well curated with all kinds of items from South Africa. Lots of unique handmade items that stand out from so much of the usual tourist items. The mall has parking. Inside of there are welcoming coffee shops and lots of other specialty stores. In fact the whole neighborhood is well worth a walk about to discover on your own.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 29 November 2023
- Celeste B16 contributionsThank you for returning my forgotten wallet after my lovely gift purchases!Every time I return to Cape Town, this is one of my go to shops for gifts in the beautiful Cape Quarter, offering local products, a wide selection for young and old and very reasonably priced. I left my wallet on the counter after paying. The owners went out of their way to find my contact details, contacted me and returned my wallet intact! Thank you guys, your honesty and efforts are so appreciated. Looking forward to next time. CelesteVisited February 2024Travelled soloWritten 10 February 2024

Bought a postcard to send to Malta which the shopkeeper said he could send for me as it was part of what they offered at the shop. My parents are still waiting for the postcard which I suspect wasn’t sent at all.
Very disappointed.

Dear Christine
We are extremely disappointed that you would write such a negative review purely on your incorrect presupposition that we did not mail your post card.
We have had our shop for 16 years and go out of our way to mail postcards for customers and non customers. We even have a post box in the shop. We post them once a week at the Vlaeberg post office. We must have posted many thousands of post cards through the years. This is a free service.
We post them in good faith that they indeed will arrive on the other side. Once we have posted them it is out of our hands. Sometimes it may take a long time to arrive. Mail unfortunately sometimes also do get lost. It can get lost by postal services on this side or internationally.
As you can see with all the good reviews we had over the years, we really go the extra mile when it comes to customer service. Your postcard was mailed as we promised we would.
So the fact that you just assume we did not mail it is really not correct and extremely unfair.

If you're looking for a place for souvenirs, here's the best place in Cape Town! There's every kind of super nice gift, each one very particular and local. But the best part of the shop are the owners, lovely people who quickly became friends! Hope to see you soon!

Is Baraka Shop within walking distance of V&A Waterfront?
of Greenmarket Square?
Are the prices at Baraka Shop fixed, or can we haggle some more?
Gavin T
Cape Town Central, South Africa40 contributions
yes Baraka is within walking distance.... basically between Greenmarket Square and the V&A Waterfront (15min walk either way). Price are fixed but are very reasonable as it is a shop where locals also buy. As a tourist you can however claim back the 14% vallue added tax which is included in the price. You do that at the custom counter at the airport before you check out. You just need to show them the receipsts and they may ask to see the goods. so remember to keep all uour receipts 😊

Hello,
My husband and I are interested in staying at your hotel for 10 days in July. What city do we fly into?
How do we make reservations?
Thank you!

Hi Reza,
I think you may have meant to send your reservation inquiry to someone else. I visited South Africa last spring and live in the US. I only meant to post a review of a lovely shop (Baraka) I frequented when I was there. I can tell you there are many flats in the neighborhood surrounding Baraka for rental - they're absolutely lovely and reasonably priced. You probably know this but there are also many great hotels in the Waterkant district. Happy travels to you! You picked a great place to visit. Jim
