Tim is a great tour guide. He is patient, knowledgeable, and has been in Cape Town for well over 20 years so he is extremely verse of the area and knows where all the secret gems are. Whether you like wineries, hiking up Table Mountain, visiting penguins, or just a thorough city tour, Tim is your guide!

My family spent 3 full days with Tim, and he was able to show us the best of Cape Town and the surrounding area. Tim will send sample itineraries given your available time with him and you pick what you like (or just tell him what you like, and he will cater to your tastes and customize a tour just for you). I highly recommend Tim; you won't be disappointed.

Tim has a tremendous amount of knowledge about Cale Town’s past and how it transitioned to the present . He proves to be an expert in knowing about everything we saw at the botanical gardens and sculpture garden .
Dan Lewis Sculpture Garden, Botanical Garden, Table Top Mountain, Penguins, Waterford and Tokera wineries-
Tim was able to locate a hidden shop where locals are trained to make beaded animals . His knowledge was surpassed only by his willingness to be flexible. I highly recommend Tim to guide you through Cape Town and her hidden jewels

We were lucky enough to have Tim recommended to us.
From the first email to waving goodbye his service, advice, knowledge and enthusiasm was second to none.
We tailored our day before arriving in Cape Town so were all set from 9am.
Tim took us to Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch gardens and the Langa township.
As has been stated in previous reviews his knowledge is encyclopaedic and infectious.
We had a wonderful day and would strongly recommend Tim to anyone visiting.
Tim, your other suggestions were awesome thanks, Vergelegen was stunning and Stony point great fun.
Thanks again for a great day Tim, we loved every minute and please thank Narty for the township tour guiding when you next see him.

Tim is a great guide, as other reviews say Tim is an encyclopaedia of knowledge of Cape Town and worldly affairs.
Confident, jovial and clear when speaking so easy to understand. Highly recommended

Tim has an impressive encyclopaedic knowledge of Cape Town, and provided so many interesting facts as he took me and my five-year-old daughter around the peninsula. Tim tailored our trip to meet both my interests and that of my daughter. Tim added extra ‘treats’ Into our trip, so that it was not all focused on entertaining my daughter. Tim carefully curated the trip, so that we created memories that will last for a lifetime. I cannot more highly recommend Tim and his wonderful caring service.

We are a group of two sets of partners so four adults and we booked Tim for a full day in the winelands visiting Stellenbosch and then Tokara for lunch and then back. The van was comfortable and the experience really thoroughly enjoyable. Tim was clever and witty and enabled us to change the tour as we went according to what we fancied. Very much recommend this. He also shared insights and routes that we could explore on our own, which we did.

We had 2 tours booked, the Tin Man's Four Passes Tour and the Yellow Brick Road Tour of the Cape Winelands, and Tim managed to provide us with an amazing experience for both days.

Tim is definitely one of the top guides I have ever met. He was able to share a wide variety of fun facts while on the drive to our destinations and always has a great way of delivering the information. He was also very pleasant and flexible with the tours and he makes a point to check what your interests are, or what you would like to see.

On the tours, we were able to see the picturesque landscapes of Cape Town and were brought to vineyards with amazing views. We had lots of fun and always were wondering how the day passed so quickly.

The Friends of Dorothy Day Tours is highly recommended for anyone who would like to learn more about Cape Town and have a great time doing it!

Our group had 2 tours with Tim both of which were excellent. The reataurants were an excellent choice by Tim.
He Taylor made our 2nd day as one of our party had expressed an interest in visiting a cheetah sanctuary.
I would thoroughly recommend Tim as a tour guide, - I agree with another review which says he is the Wikipedia of Cape Town .

Best tour guide ever!

We travel frequently and have used many tour guides n our varied trips. Tim Freeman@friends for Dorothy was absolutely the best. He was outstanding and I would recommend him to anyone who is going to Cape Town.

We were a group of 4 adults and hired Tim to take us through Cape Town and surrounding areas. We corresponded with him prior to our trip and he was unbelievably helpful in setting up our time. On the first day we went wine tasting in the Stellenbosch region as it was Sunday and Tim advised us that much in the city would be closed. We had an unbelievable day touring wineries. Tim was so knowledgeable about the region and wines we sampled. We soon learned his breadth of knowledge was vast. He could give us history as well as colorful information about South Africa which made it interesting and entertaining. We visited places I could not have imagined existed in Cape Town. As beautiful as anything I’ve seen in Tuscany.

The next day we had a city walking tour. Again Tim’s knowledge was amazing. He knows where to stop and let us explore. He is acquainted with people in different sectors of the city who helped us understand Cape Town and the variety of people who live there. We took a tour of a township which was truly eye opening.

On our last day with Tim we drove to The Cape of Good Hope. We stopped at Kristenbosch Gardens and were just blown away by his knowledge of plants. On our travels we saw baboons, ostrich, seals and a variety of other wild animals. The trip was so beautiful and interesting. Plus Tim timed it perfectly so we could make our dinner reservation at one of Cape Town’s finest restaurants.

The one thing I may not have mentioned is Tim’s quick wit which makes touring with him so enjoyable. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a guide in Cape Town

The Best guide in South Africa. Tim’s knowledge coverage such a wide breath of subjects he is a Wikipedia of knowledge on all things South African! We were lucky enough to book Tim for all three days (could have been busy for 6 or 7) of our private tours and each day was customized to our groups needs (four of us) and interests. The first day was wine tasting in the Stellenbosch where he planned a spectacular day of wine tasting. Our day included stops at
Hartenberg which was just gorgeous and equally beautiful Rustenberg with wonderful wines and views and gardens. He booked our lunch at Delaire Graff Estate several months prior so we we able to sit outside and enjoy a view that was more beautiful than being in Tuscany or the Loire Valley. All the time Tim shared information about the history, custom, traditions and complicated political climate through the Dutch, British, apartheid and current times. His sense of humor was spot on and we enjoyed every minute together. He is a poet, historian, witty, thoughtful, and quick to improvise on the spot if needed. In short, everything one would want in a Tour Guide! Dinner at Babel was extraordinary and unique. But Tim is just as comfortable taking us to a street vendor and showing us the samosas at a corner stand are safe to eat as he is recommending some of the most wonderful dining experiences around town. We so enjoyed our second day walk around town culminating in the firing of the noon gun overlooking Capetown. One of the highlights of the second day was visiting a township called Langa. Experiencing township life with a local guide Tim arranged and learning about the daily hardships there and triumphs was extraordinary.. Our last day was another miracle of planning and perfect execution. We started out at Kirsteneosch Gardens. At first I was very reluctant to tour a garden but so glad I listened to Tim . These gardens are like nothing we have seen anywhere and Tim’s knowledge of everything green made it so interesting even for the non gardeners in our group. Walking high up along the canopy walk in the gardens was quite an experience. The Penguin experience was also quite special. Tim has so much information to share on so many subjects that even a visit to the Penguins becomes even more interesting and fascinating then you might expect (ask him to share the story of the Penguin rescue operation that captivated all Capetown a while back) The visit to the Cape of good hope was equally spectacular as we the scenic ride around the peninsula to view the 12 Apostils . Weather your group has a short attention span or longer one Tim instantly reads the group and adapts the tour to their needs and interests . Having taken many private tours around the world from Asia to India and Europe I can say unequivocally Tim stands head and shoulders above any other Tour guide I have ever hired and spent time with. If you are lucky enough to book him, I have no doubt you will be writing a similar review!
