After the recent fire, the city of Cape Town really needs to attend to the devastation of hiking trails and paths around the whole of Silvermine nature reserve

The beauty of this reserve lies in many things; but for one, this is an ideal reserve for a big group of people with varying abilities who want to all do some exercise and then get together for a social afterwards - for them this...More

This is the second time that I have done this circular walk. Across the dam up the shoulder to a cave, then working up a gently rising and rough path until the main pathway is reached. Continuing upward and turning off left to reach a...More

Silvermine is a family favourite for walking or biking in nature. There are places to picnic and a reservoir if you wish to swim. Beautiful views abound.

We had an awesome walk to Elephant Eye Cave. The walk and a bit of a climb were excellent with beautiful views. When we came down we also had a swim in Silvermine dam. Great to swim in water from the mountain.

Many locals (also 2 tourguides) told us to avoid that area in summer 2017/18 because many robberies with fatalities took place in that area. Cape Town authorities say they are working on safety so maybe later it will be ok.

We were hesitant to hike there after recent attacks in the area but we had a guide and felt very safe. Did an easy 10km hike followed by a swim in the cool clean reservoir. A stunning day out.

Unfortunately there is no public transport. The best would be to use Uber.
