- MN_WalkersMinneapolis, Minnesota568 contributionsVery pleasantWe came out on the Hop On/Hop Off bus and spent about three hours at the winery. It is a very pleasant site. One can wander along the vineyards, walk through two museums, dine at your choice of restaurants (we had lunch at Simons' Restaurant and were very pleased), and have a wine tasting. The wine tasting allowed us to chose up to five wines; the pours were generous for a tasting and we were allowed to keep our glasses. The grounds are attractive; there is outdoor and indoor seating. It was a very relaxing experience.Visited March 2023Written 20 March 2023
- Edward EDorset, United Kingdom19 contributionsA perfect taste of a SA vinehardVery good value wine tasting and they were even able to offer some wines off the standard menu as there were open bottles. Delicious lunch at Jonkershuis Restaurant and service was exceptional. A great option for a taste of a SA vineyard if you are unable to get further out of Cape Town.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 March 2023
- lc2bltLeeds, United Kingdom109 contributionsLovely wine!Lovel wine tasting which was very good value and we enjoyed learning about the wines and tasting all the ones on offer. We ended up buying a bottle of heir Sauvignon Blanc as it was amazing! Got to bring the glasses home too which survived the trip to the UK and we will enjoy drinking out of them! Was a good option to stop for wine tasting from the hop on hop off bus.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 1 September 2023
- Wombling_Free_7548Bristol, United Kingdom2,079 contributionsA bit too commercial compared to the competitionDid a quick 5 tasting, led by the excellent Zabron. Wines were not that great, and the tasting had more of a commercial, in-and-out vibe than a relaxing time. Zabron was great though and made good recommendations as well as sneaking in some of napoleons favourite dessert wine which was deliciousVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 October 2023
- Jackson WBrisbane, Australia2 contributionsA great historic winery with incredible foodIncredible views, wine tasting and restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed the wines during our tasting. The buildings and vineyards are beautifully maintained and surrounded by the mountains. We also enjoyed one of the best meals we have had throughout our South African trip at one of the restaurants. Our meals included a perfectly cooked and presented ostrich dish and a wonderful pasta with trout.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 17 October 2023

It was a little bit of a rush job as we got there for the last tour at 4pm. The tour was about 20mins and a great introduction to South African Wine and the Groot Constantia vineyard. For example, they grow their own pinotage grapes and their dessert wine can be kept for 100 years! Lovely outing for the family and dog. Pair your wine tasting with chocolates designed to bring out the distinctive nose and notes of the wines.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 18 December 2023
- Jen CJacksonville, Florida137 contributionsGo for the views, stay for the food/ wineWe did the self guided tour with wine/chocolate tasting with our 3 kids (13, 11, 9). I was worried they would be bored or it was too adult for them to enjoy but there were TONS of other families there, too. They enjoyed seeing the old furniture and household items and stealing our chocolate from the wine tasting 😉 Wine was delicious and expertly explained and our lunch was divine too. A glorious day!Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 21 December 2023

We got the Blue line hop on hop off bus which took us into the estate where we ordered our favourite wine Groot Constantia special reserve which we arranged to be shipped home, plus bought a couple of spares to be carried home ourselves. Once the transaction was completed and, also had an opportunity to try another we decided to finish our visit by having a lunch at our favourite restaurant Simon's which is on the estate. The meal was absolutely amazing, the company was very good and most importantly the settings were outstanding. Highly recommend a visit should you get the opportunity 🥰Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 20 January 2024

The guided visit was interesting, however no clear signage on where it will start. This was the first winery that we visited while in SA, and it did not disappoint compared to the others.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 28 February 2024

Average wine, horrible wine tasting venue, especially outside, you overlook the parking lot, and staff traffic area. It seems there are many opportunities that could make the wine tasting experience quite magical, and they have been overlooked. However the staff are amazing, and they make every effort to ensure a humorous and exciting experience which does make up, somewhat for the poor layout of the venue.

Tour was ok but at times difficult to hear because of significant background noise but interesting nonetheless. Wine tasting good - well presented. What let down the visit for us was the confusing signage pointing visitors this way and that, but no clear route to the tour start/tasting point. Frustrating! Even the toilets were found by chance - no directional signage. When mentioned to a couple of different staff members, their reaction was equivalent of ‘yes, we know. We have mentioned it many times before but nothing changes’.

Confusing layout and no clear signage as to what to do / where to go. Cellar tour was ok but he was speaking to the group on the stairs and we couldn’t hear him. Wine tasting was fine but never been to wine tasting before that was done in this manner, on an individual basis. It seemed a bit strange to us. Wine was good but not the best we’ve had so didn’t purchase any.

On Sunday 12 November at 15h45 one of staff members at Izikho Museum at Groot Constantia was racist and condescending to us on trying to walk through the Museum. She was not welcoming and spoke to us black South Africans differently than she did with foreign international visitors. As if to say were a wasting her time.
There are plenty of friendly Wine Establishments in the Western Cape do not visit the Izikho Museum at Groot Constantia if you as people don’t want to be belittled.
When we informed her that we would expose her treatment on social media she walked us out and said we should go ahead.

How would you schedule a tour to Groot Constantia and Beau Constantia? It seems like both offers lunch/dinner? Should I just do a wine tasting at Groot and then head to Beau for an early evening dinner?
Written 22 October 2019
The highlight of the tour is Wine and Wine Tasting. So allow time for that and arrange Lunch/ dinner accordingly

We are interested in visiting on our upcoming trip, however we have 2 teenagers with us! If we do wine tasting or visitor tour do we have to pay for them even though they won’t be drinking?

We took UBER to Groot Constantia and had the wine and chocolate pairing.
Be flexible..................that is what it is all about!

how long it will take to do the Cellar tour and tasting? Also how long do you have to wait for the hop-on hop-off when finish?
Written 25 May 2017
Cellar tour and tasting will last 45 minutes.
Written 27 May 2017
How far is the walk from the hop on hop off bus stop to the entrance? We are not students but would like to book the cellar tour without the wine tasting. Is that possible? Do we have to book in advance or can we just turn up? How long is the cellar tour? Also what is the menu and food like at the two restaurants in Groot Constantia?
Written 26 February 2017
The walk is 5 mins max down a flight of easy steps and along a gravel pathway through a courtyard. We just turned up with no reservation and got on tour straightaway and the wine tasting at the end was delicious.

posso pagar o tasting la com cartao de credito?
Written 22 November 2016
Sem dúvida que sim. Dificilmente, alguém não aceitará um cartão de crédito para pagar qualquer conta.
