Threre's some nice painting

Apart from the usual art craft markets you see everywhwere, there's some nice African paintings. In general, there're far too many stalls of the same things.

There's probably lots of bargains to be haggled over, and everything but everything on sale, but it's very busy, tightly packed and a bit mad! For some travellers it will be exactly the full-on experience you enjoy, but frankly I found it really overwhelming. I found it much nicer browsing the brightly coloured stalls along the nearby street.

The market offers a lot of things to buy, and if you bargain you can get some good prices. Some of the salespeople are aggressive, however, and many stalls sell some of the exact same souvenirs, making you wonder how authentic they are. It's really colourful though, and you can definitely go for a nice stroll through the square.

Just next to St. George's Cathedral you will find Greenmarket Square. It is a typical African market square where you can find things from all over Africa. Beware of your belongings!

Simple follow one shopping rule.. whatever street vendor quotes you for example RAND 100 for an x item. then start negotiating from 30 RAND and close it to max 40 or 50...

At first glance, this market seems to consist of a laid back open space for independent artists surrounded by local cafes. However, you quickly find stalls selling the same thing over and over (paintings, wooden items, wired items and scarfs) and vendors are pretty aggressive. When skirting around the edges, people will approach you begging for money. The local free... More

Greenmarket square is full of little stalls where vendors sell everything from nicknacks to clothes. Worth a stop while strolling through Cape Town

We did not like this market at all; all souvenirs seemed the same and the sellers were annoying. We left very fast

We have visited Cape Town three times and have stayed at the same hotel on this square on each occasion. (Inn on the Square) It is lively and colourful with the craft market on every day! There is so much local life and cheap places to eat and watch the world go by. It is also convenient for Long Street... More
