Just off Long Street is a remarkable sort of pop up market. There are rows and rows of supposedly native arts and crafts. The volume is remarkable. Most stalls sell about the same stuff but it is fun too look at. We spent about an...More

I went right when the market opened to buy gifts for my nieces and nephews. These are the local entrepreneurs and I knew that the money I spent was staying with people I was purchasing from. They will try to highball you as a tourist...More

Stall after stall of the same products for sale. Some stall keepers were pushy others friendly and laid back. You need to bargain! We bought a couple of things.

This is a square with a lot of craft things to sell but the sellers don't show the price, and if you want to look something , they bother you trying to negotiate. And we found better prices for the same products in various stores...More

There is a daily market that gets set up in the square and it is a fun place to shop and interact with local residents. No doubt some of the wares are not super authentic, but there is a wide range of goods and I...More

"Please, it will be my first sale of the day and bring me good luck the rest of the day" (1 pm) Most shops sell the same merchandise and make it difficult to just look around.

I expected South African curios, but found mostly North African vendors selling North African products. Not very cheap, I might add. Good place to browse if you have time on hand.

In Greenmarket Square you'll find an extensive selection of marvellous artwork. There are some seriously creative exhibitors here. Make sure you haggle 😉

After the market we stopped for lunch and were entertained by several groups on the corner of Streetmarket and Shortmarket. Wish we had a longer time to stay there.

The market isn't enclosed, it's just out there on a closed-off street. In the middle of downtown, so yes, wheelchair accessible for sure. As for parking, it seemed to be just street parking. We were on foot so didn't pay much... More

they didn't like American money, SAR is easily available at atms . they do bargain, but, prices did great, if I got it cheaper, I gave them the rest as a too, its not required, but, they are so nice.
I've read a lot that the market is not like it used to be and locals say many of the crafts are made in China. Where is the best place to go for authentic art and souvenirs?
