Was in Cape Town recently on vacation with my daughter. We wanted to add a fun experience to our itinerary. We signed up for the Bo-Kaap Cooking Tour and it turned out to be the highlight of our stay! We met Zayed for a walking tour of the area which included visits to a spice shop and some local galleries. Having grown up in area, he had some very interesting stories and tips! We then went to his family home for a cooking lesson with his lovely sister Munowarah who was quite knowledgeable and also had a great sense of humor just like her brother. This is not just a demonstration; you are involved in all of the preparation and have a delicious lunch to enjoy at the end of class. Highly recommend if you want to add something special to your trip to Cape Town.

Zayed first gave us short and informative tour of the area, then he and his sister showed us the tricks and tips of how to prepare great cape malay food. Who would have thought it could be so much fun to carmalize onions or fold somosas. And we got eat a great lunch that we helped to prepare.

Absolutely amazing! I can’t recommend this enough. The family makes you feel right at home and walks you through everything. The food is delicious and they truly support the Bo Kapp community taking you to local vendors and even helping the homeless/hungry. Make sure you come hungry 😄

Truly amazing experience. Zayed was so knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. He did a great job teaching us how to make everything. Zayed sister also helped us make the meal. Everyone was so patient and the food was incredible. It was hands on and lots of fun. Excited to try make it at home back in the USA!

This was definitely worth a half day while in Cape Town. Adding the tour of Bo Kaap and learning about the community, plus visiting the market where we learned about the many varieties of foods, enriched the day’s experience. Zayed was a great tour guide, and he and his sister were easy, relaxed, patient, excellent instructors, and fun hosts. We learned a lot from the hands-on experience, and the food was delicious.

Our cooking teacher is the wife of our tour guide and his sister also worked with us. Very helpful and friendly. The steps involved in the class were well explained. The food was great and the time passed quickly. I highly recommend it.

Tour starts with a visit to the spice shop and ends with lunch that you have cooked yourself (with the other guests). Your host, Zayed meets you in Bo Kaap, telling you about the neighbourhood and the threats from gentrification; you then move on to cook in their house where Zoelfaa talks you through the cooking of dhaltijies, samosas and chicken cape Malay curry (that’s your lunch). Everything is informal and informative and most of all GREAT FUN! Highly recommend.

The Bo-Kaap cooking tour was a great day. Sailad and his wife and sister were delightful and made it so much fun. I was with a tour group, Zebra Adventures, and we were all able to participate in making all the food. We then sat down as a group and enjoyed what we had cooked. It was great.!

This was an incredible experience! My wife and I went as part of a larger package as neither of us cook much and probably would never have signed up otherwise. The experience of learning the history of the area from a local followed by cooking and eating an authentic meal prepared in their home was phenomenal. The food was delicious and the experience outstanding. This is a must do when in Cape Town!

What an absolutely amazing experience. Ms Zainie and her family are full of knowledge, love, heritage and culture. Her love of cooking has definitely transferred to her children. I do not cook and never would have booked this tour, but I am so glad we did. It was everything I could have imagined and more. The food was simply delicious. I also enjoyed Zayed’s narrative of the Bo-Kaap region of South Africa. I learned much, both in the kitchen and along the way. Thank you for a fabulous, out-of-the-box treat for me. This is definitely a “must-do” for visitors of Cape Town.
