We had a fun and educational experience on the Bo-Kaap Cooking Tour! Zayed was a great guide and his passion for preserving the history and culture of his neighborhood is evident. We particular enjoyed being able to learn more about the history of the neighborhood while walking the streets, as well as being able to see some of the shops that would later supply ingredients during the cooking class! The class itself was a ton of fun, and really interactive and engaging. Everyone got to play a part, flipping rootis, folding samoosas, or stirring the curry. And the food at the end was excellent! If you're looking for an opportunity to learn more about the unique Cape Malay culture and cuisine in Cape Town, highly recommend!

We loved being welcomed into the home after a walking tour of Bo Kaap, and learning the history of the area. The food was completely delicious, and they accommodated me as a pescatarian.
So much fun, can’t recommend enough.

After a very informative tour and history of the Bo-Kaap area, and visit to the spice shop, we had great fun learning about the Cape Malay cuisine in the very capable hands of Zayed and Zainie. Our efforts to make samosas, dhaltjies, rooti and curry were encouraged, even when they did not quite come up to the standards of our generous hosts! And the best bit - we got to eat it afterwards. We would recommend this tour to any visitors to Cape Town.

Zahedan has lived all his life and as other reviewers say, you are welcomed into his home and by his family, children and sister.
It’s a short walking tour, visit to a spice shop and then round to his house to cook / eat.
I would have liked a slightly longer and more informative walking tour - you have so much knowledge to share. Personally I would reduce the cooking time and lengthen the tour. Slightly.
Meeting point is outside a corner shop - not evident from the instructions - superette I think it was called.
It’s pricey, you can pay by card. But please go and support a community

Visited the Bo Kaap neighborhood with our friends and did the Bo Kaap Cooking Tour. We started with a brief tour of the neighborhood, during which Zayed talked about the history and personality of its residents. He then brought us to his family home, where his sister, Manauara, took over and guided us through the preparation of a Cape Malay meal. Her humor, along with the warmth of the whole family, made us all feel at home. We got to sit down and enjoy the dinner and met their Mother, Zainie Misbach, who is a pioneer in the Cape Malay restaurant world and a tv personality. She was also very warm and friendly.
All in all, this tour was a wonderful experience and we would recommend it to anyone who loves delicious food and is interested in learning about all of the different cultures represented in Cape Town.

Absolutely amazing! I can’t recommend this enough. The family makes you feel right at home and walks you through everything. The food is delicious and they truly support the Bo Kapp community taking you to local vendors and even helping the homeless/hungry. Make sure you come hungry 😄

We had a really good day with the family. Welcomed into their house, had all our random questions answered, learned loads about the food, the history and the culture, and participated fully in cooking (and eating) a delicious Malay curry, samosas and Doltjiies. Can thoroughly recommend:

We had a fantastic time with Zayed & his team, especially meeting the well known Zainie Misbach. We had a lovely time getting to know the heritage of the family and a little more about the history behind Bo Kaap with its beautiful colored homes.
After the tour we went to the cooking tour at the residence of Mrs Zainie. You just feel the homely and warmth that radiates in her home.
While learning to make some delicious Daltjies and Samoosas and don't forget the delightful aroma of making Traditional Cape Malay Chicken Curry.
My team and I from Point B Guesthouse in Greenpoint enjoyed just about everything, what is so amazing is the family style sitdown while having your lunch.
Would definitely recommend this to my guest.

Now this I would highly recommend: a first rate tour with history and insight into Bo-kaap and its cultural and culinary heritage by Zayed, followed by an amazing cooking class of Cape Malay food by his wife Zoelfaa, and sister Munowarah! You learn all about the background and get to cook super tasty chicken curry, roti, dalchies and samosas. And then eat it of course! Oohh and that green chilly and coriander dip:-). The setting is intimate and really friendly in a true Bo-kaap home. Don’t leave Cape Town without participating in this unique event!

After a walk through Bo-Kaap with Zayed, where we learned about the Cape Malays, we visited local shops and galleries. Later, we had a funny and interesting cooking workshop at his home. We made Roti, dhaaltjes, samosas and chicken curry...we learned what is essential to make them a success...and could taste the result: it was delicious!
