We called here on the way back from Cape Point. There is a large pay car park with a dilatory attendant, very close to the beach.

There are quite decent amenities with a nice block paved 'promenade' and a nice path going round the bay to the south. Quite a long beach with an attractive mountain backdrop but the beach /ambience didn't do much for me.

Probably more of a local's beach than one for tourists and in my opinion there are nicer Indian Ocean beaches around and past Muizenberg heading south.

Fish Hoek beach felt very dodgy and unsafe. There was an outlet that said not to touch the water coming from it and so it didn't really feel like a place to swim or put your feet in the ocean. There's a great restaurant there though.

A mile of gentle sloping white sand and the last of the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, what more can a family want? Plenty free parking ,a good restaurant and the spectacle of Michael's latest sand sculpture. Very safe swimming at the West end with no dangerous currents and shark nets whenever the very occasional shark is sighted by the beach Rangers.

Fish Hoek beach is one of Cape Town's best kept secrets. When people come to visit, they head straight for the famous beaches like Camps Bay, Llandudno and Clifton. Their loss! Fish Hoek is positioned in a bay of the False Bay coast. The water is MUCH warmer than that on the Atlantic side and the beach is always in excellent condition. It is used by families, dog walkers (they are allocated a part of the beach to walk their animals), life savers (Fish Hoek has one of the top life saving clubs at the beach) and retired people living in the town, so is usually well used. You can stay on the beach or you can go along the Cat Walk (a tarred walkway that runs along one side of the bay and has the most amazing rock pools, as well as a great natural rock pool in which to swim).
In summer, there is nothing to beat the warm water and perfect conditions on the beach. The sea is safe and the beach is beautiful. The key is to arrive early and leave by lunch time when the wind usually starts picking up for the afternoon. The wind then starts dying again in the late afternoon. There are showers on the beach if the salt water makes you itch!
In winter, there is nothing more magical than taking a walk along the beach or the Cat Walk after being stuck inside for many days by one of the famous Cape storms! The Cape winter has some fantastic clear, warm days and that is when you can head to Fish Hoek for some lunch at the restaurant and a walk on the beach.

The beach itself is lovely to walk on for a short walk but the town is very tired and could do with revitalising. Wouldn't stop here and views/ access to beach spoiled by railway line.

Enjoy a day at the beach and enjoy the town at the same time. Do go for fish and chips in the main street - it's super fresh and tasty and one of the best places to get seafood.

On some days, the wind is excessive and very cold on the beach. Therefore I suggest using an App to accurately indicate the wind speed on the day of your intended visit.

Visited this beach for an hour just for a coffee at the Galley. Arrived around 9 am and when we arrived at the beach car park they demanded 17R to park. Said we are only staying an hour just to have a coffee. 17R was still demanded which we had to pay. Kind of puts me off going back again for a short visit.

Fish Hoek is capable of grinding to a halt- and it did on the day when we were there.
We never saw the beach. after sitting for more than an hour on the main street.
No police came to resolve the situation.
the residents walked across the street. Went into shops and still we sat going nowhere.
Eventually we pullend into a side street and escaped.
Never again will i risk being Fish Hoeked.

Fish Hoek is a gem of a place but to find a parking place is difficult! So, if you're going to meander along the beach or the main road, where there are loads of lovely shops, go EARLY.
