We did a Langa Township walking tour. Our Guide MC was just amazing. Great knowledge and passion about his home township. Answered all the questions that we had and gave us great insights to what live in a township is like. Very recommendable!!

On June 1, 2019 based on recommendation from friends we joined MC on a township experience In Langa. One can defined Langa as the "other side of Cape Town" the lesser-known one (at least for tourists). Our "group" included my husband and I and our 3 children aged 15, 13 and 10. Mc led us through the township full of information and stories about the township in specific and the black's history in Cape Town in general. We had the privilege to meet some of the residents of the township that opend their homes and let us in and to meet a group of cute kids in the day care that welcomed us with a sweet song. Particularly moving was the visit to MC's childhood home and his willingness to share his personal story with us. The sights, information and stories we were exposed to on the tour were fascinating and awakened among us thoughts about human nature, despair, motivation, Ambition and responsibility for our own fate. It is hard to believe that only few minutes away from Cape Town, there are so many people liveing such different lifes, struggling for their survival. Writing on behalf of my whole family, I can warmly recommend the tour under the guidance of Mc. This tour that will be remembered as one of the highlights of our visit to Cape Town if not of all our travels so far ...

I had contacted MC late one Saturday night via WhatsApp, asking if it was too late to book in for the Gospel Church tour of Langa the next morning. He replied promptly and I was all booked in. MC offers a unique experience as he was born and bred in Langa, a township a short drive from the Cape Town CBD. He is a proud man, keen to educate everyone and encourages lots of questions. Nothing is off limits. We visited the Arts & Crafts Centre, Guga Sthebe, where I had the opportunity to meet and speak with several artists who have created their own businesses. There was no pressure to buy anything however, I was very impressed by the items on display and love supporting local artists. From here we visited the Methodist Church for Sunday service. We entered via the side with the service in full swing. The music was loud, uplifting and the congregation moved freely around the Church, including the children. The music seemed to encourage everyone to freestyle and dance. It was wonderful to observe. Afterwards, MC took me for a walk through the township. I’m not sure I would have felt comfortable doing this without a local accompanying me, and we stopped for a local donut, walking past the local businesses of car washes, hair salons, and African food. It is a feast for the senses, everyone is out and about which makes sense once you see the living conditions. There are various types of accommodation offered in the township with some homes sharing toilets, some having access to only the communal shower block, some one bedroom living quarters housing 2 families, but the strange aspect of this is that almost every home, even the shipping containers, has a satellite dish affixed to it and there is an abundance of well maintained, fancy cars. It begs questions but MC provided so much insight into what is considered important and how people prioritise their income. I would highly recommend MC and his tour. He is very informative, honest, provides his own story and upbringing and keen to educate all visitors.

MC is amazing - so funny, knowledge, and open. He is extremely reliable and dependable. We took a group of 14 college students in a Langa tour. As a member of the community, his insights were so very helpful. He is so honest and shows folks all sides of the township, working to dispel many preconceived notions people have about these communities. Excellent job. He also does an amazing job with small groups. I highly recommend him to all!

MC was prompt, friendly, professional. We toured Langa township, attended a church service, went to an arts and crafts center where we got to meet the artists and had a chance to purchase their wares, had a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. MC told us what things were like in the past and what things are like now, and then showed us what he was talking about. It was an eye-opener and brought it to a personal level. This tour will change your perspective. I would recommend this tour for everyone!
