Vamos is deeply embedded in the Langa Township through its ownership...

Vamos is deeply embedded in the Langa Township through its ownership (Siviwe), tour guides (Siviwe, Nathi, Gladstone, Abosh), and community involvement (Happy Feet Youth Project). Touring with Vamos is like being a guest in our neighbourhood! We live here, this is our home and you are our special guest. Our experiences too, are different. We take smaller groups on interactive walking or cycling tours around Langa. We visit friends in their homes and shacks, we hear their stories, we show you their businesses, we share traditional Xhosa beer, we smell sidewalk barbecues, (taste if you'd like), visit shebeens and spaza stores. We want to share with you, a slice of life in the townships. On weekday mornings, your tour will include a meal, usually a barbecue at the well-known Mzoli's in Guguletu. Our afternoon tours include a visit to the Happy Feet Youth Project. On Sundays, we include a visit to a Gospel Church. The unexpected thing about a tour with Vamos, is that most guests come away feeling positive and inspired. Our tours are not about poverty .... yes you will see signs of poverty, but rather our tours are about people and how they are lifting themselves out of their poverty. Positive, resilient, hopeful people who are friendly, welcoming and proud of their culture and history.

All the excellent reviews on the tour is what we experienced: an excellent guide explaining clearly the history of the township, a safe walk inside the houses, a kids dance with the energy that only kids have, a homy meal, the intriguing and exhilarating energy from the gospel singing on the Sunday church ( recommended to do this on a... Gladstone arrived on time and lead our very informative and well thought out tour of his township of Langa. Langa is one of the original townships and Gladstone shared both his personal history of living in the township and the general historical information. We toured in the van, on foot and then enjoyed a presentation of "Happy Feet Youth Project"... More

When my wife and I visited Cape Town 20+ years ago, the Townships were just something we passed with fascination on the highway. When visiting recently with our children, we added a walking tour of the Langa Township with Vamos--it was a highlight of our visit. In fact, I can go so far as to say that our trip would... More

On a warm morning, we spent two hours bicycling the Langa Township area with a brilliant guide, whose name I unfortunately have forgotten. He facilitated access to a local dwellers' shack home, where they told about the history of their settlement there. I've been asked not to mention names, so as to not bring too much attention to the people... More

We had a great morning under the guidance of Gladstone who showed us around Langa township. From the inside of a squatter's shelter to a men's hostel to a gospel church service and finally a visit to the Happy Feet Youth Project... we learned a lot and have a much better appreciation for the situation of people living in the... A friend and I booked this tour mainly on the basis of reviews. Gladstone, our guide was wonderful in every way. There were only four of us on the tour and we specifically chose the Sunday to be able attend part of the Gospel Church Service. Gladstone was incredibly informative and from the start, you're traversing small alleyways between shacks... More

Hello Alison. So nice of you to take the time to write about your experience in Langa. We're of course delighted that you enjoyed spending time with Gladstone in Langa. There's a neighbourliness, genuine friendliness and a "sense of village community" around here that seems to strike a cord with visitors from other parts of the world. We're Glad you... More

This township tour was one of the highlights of our entire trip to South Africa. I had read about vamos some years ago in a Berlin newspaper and made the arrangement by email well in advance. Everything worked extremely well. Gladstone, our guide, is a local from Langa himself and knows his way around there very good. The people we... More

Excellent guide that personally lives in Langa and knows everyone by name. If you are looking for tour where you get to go and visit people's houses, talk to locals, hear their life stories, interact with children and much more, definitelly book tour with Vamos :)

I cannot recommend this tour enough. Gladstone our guide was incredible - this tour shows you the tough as well as the good of life for many, many South Africans. It told a story of hardship paired with resilience, hope and success. It really is a must-do in CT!
