About Uthando (Love) South Africa
Uthando (Love) South Africa is an internationally award winning and unique Non Profit Organization and Fair Trade certified company. Uthando raises funds and other forms of assistance for a broad range of inspiring and innovative community development projects. Uthando runs Philanthropic Educational Excursions tailormade scheduled or private visits (for groups of any size). We take visitors into the townships (impoverished areas created during Apartheid on the outskirts of Cape Town) to visit incredible community development projects. We shine a light on the remarkable people and projects that are helping to build the new South Africa at grass roots level. On our visits we tell the remarkable story and history of South Africa and its brutal past, we discuss pertinent issues confronting our people, and provide an inspiring sense of hope through the efforts of dedicated grass roots leaders. Our visits are authentic, meaningful, non-invasive, respectful and beneficial to the communities.

The best part of my trip to SA was seeing these incredible projects and meeting the people behind them! Starting with a sustainably built school and ending with a chorus and so much love and fellowship from an elderly community, my heart was full by the end of our tour. A great reminder of the power we all have to impact our communities and come together. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Cape Town!

Cape Town is beautiful and diverse, but a visit is not truly complete without learning about the townships. A tour with Uthando - a tourism certified, nonprofit organization that supports public projects within the community - was an incredible way to do this. Our guide, Xolani, shared the historical context of the townships within South Africa and led us on visits to some of the projects to which they offer support. The people we met along the way were welcoming and proud to share. It was a highlight of our trip to learn about the challenges and goals of some of these people. Uthando's concentrated focus on small, grassroots projects is beyond commendable. It is a living example of the idea that we can't change everything, but we can change something. Through perseverance and dedication small steps make significant improvements in the lives of many individuals.

Greetings Friend Thank you for taking the time and writing this review on your experience with us, we truly appreciate it. Cape Town is such an incredible beautiful city indeed and as you rightful point it, one will be doing injustice if when in Cape Town they don't do our philanthropic educational excursion, so as to immerse in the history, language and culture of the people of the Cape. When meeting and talking to the community leaders, one is able to understand and feel their passion for the development of the townships and seeing first hand the impact of "Responsible Tourism" and "Fair Trade Tourism" of which are key values of Uthando.

Visiting the preschool, community garden and the choir at the senior center was one of the highlights of our visit to South Africa. I was never worried about my safety and people at the projects were very welcoming. All the knowledge Xolani shared with us was a huge bonus because you get a sense of what has been and is still going on in the townships.

There's fantastic beaches, wineries, sights and food in Cape Town - but a trip to Cape Town isn't complete without experiencing first-hand the work Uthando does in the townships of Cape Town. We visited a community school, a unique gardening project and a senior citizen's centre - with a surprise musical performance! Xolani was a brilliant guide and explained to us the historical context and it was easy to hear his passion and love for the people of the townships and South Africa. For anyone worrying about safety - there's nothing to worry about! It's perfectly safe and your guides are respected and welcome throughout the community as each tour contributes to the projects you visit. A real highlight on our trip to South Africa!
