Description:

The Footsteps to Freedom walking tour of the historic heart of Cape Town...

The Footsteps to Freedom walking tour of the historic heart of Cape Town tells the story of Cape Town and its people. We use streets, buildings, monuments, memorials and the passing street-scene as props develop a story of Cape Town and South Africa's dramatic past. Stories of Dutch and British colonial rule, slavery and apartheid, and finally our peaceful transition to a real democracy. We gather before 10h30 (Mon-Sat) in the lobby of the Taj Cape Town Hotel, located in centre of Cape Town's cultural and historic precinct. At 10h30 the 2½ hr walking tour starts from the steps of the Bishop Robert Gray Memorial, adjacent Taj Cape Town hotel.

One of the best tours ever. Our guide, Ivor Shaskovsky (sp?) was so very knowledgable and expert at making the history of human rights in this beautiful city come alive for us. This is a tour with a point of view and therefore especially informative compared with tours that strive to be neutral or limited to just the "sights". Ivor... More

This is an excellent 3 hour walk around the core area of Cape Town which explores its history and the role apartheid played. Ivor our guide is extremely knowledgable and presents his information in a clear and easily understood manner. This tour is well worthwhile if you have the time.

We just returned from a South African holiday and spent 6 days in Cape Town. We spent two days in the region with Garth Angus. He is extremely knowledgeable about the history, culture, and flora and fauna of the region. This is what we wanted to concentrate on, and he was the perfect guide for this. We had a beautiful... We went on the city walk tour. The guide gave us a very detailed account of the history of South Africa and Cape Town, as we went around in the city.

We were recently in Cape Town and were very fortunate to spend this time with Garth Angus. He is incredibly knowledgeable about every aspect of South Africa--history, animals, wine, current issues, etc. Garth is very personable and fun to be with. He gave us great incite into all aspects of South Africa and its incredibly interesting history. It was one... More

This walking tour in Cape Town was about the best use of three hours I can imagine. Ivor has a love of Cape Town and gave us a fascinating insight into its history and that of South Africa and the struggle against apartheid. An absolutely brilliant introduction. John G

A month ago, when I received the invite from Footsteps to Freedom, a walking tour company based at the Taj Hotel in the heart of the Mother City, to join them for a walk through Cape Town to learn about the life and times of Nelson Mandela, my interest was piqued as I felt that I wanted to know more...
