Bikes 'n Wines

Cape Town Central, South Africa
About Bikes 'n Wines
Bikes ‘n Wines is an original concept born out of Cape Town and were one of the first companies to combine tourism, mountain biking and wine tasting in South Africa. Our tours are targeted at young-hearted and outdoor-loving people who would like to experience a tour from a different and authentic viewpoint. As locals to the area, we have handpicked and partnered with authentic, first-class, established wine estates in the both the Stellenbosch and Franschhoek wine regions, as well as the Elgin Adventure Centre based at the Railway market in Elgin, with the simple intention of showcasing the very best South Africa has to offer. Bikes ‘n Wines caters for all ages and fitness levels, offering personalised tours as well as adventures for groups and corporates. “Cycling tours that embody the culture and spirit of adventure in the Cape winelands.”

What an incredible way to explore the vineyards. Can’t believe I did not do this sooner. A definite must for anyone. The e-bike makes it a complete breeze - no matter the fitness level. Can’t wait to take my friends and husband for round 2

If you are wanting to visit wine farms and enjoy incredible scenery, plus have a bit of exercise, this is the way to do it. We were a group of 7, ages of 30 to 65. The e-bikes were the answer. Us older ones felt like spring chickens!!! Abie, our guide was superb. The wine farms, the weather and the scenery were unforgettable. Thank you to Taryn and Quintin from Bikes 'n Wines xxxx

This may be a great tour except for the fact that we had payed 3 months in advance for it and because of covid we had to cancel the trip to South Africa. About 2 months before the trip we contacted them asking for a refund and it was agreed on a 90% refund since we were cancelling with over 72 hours of the tour, so we waited and nothing was done about it, we contacted them again and they said "they were sorry" but that was it. We are not asking for anything but our right based on their policy, but it seems like they are not too worried about keeping up with their side of the deal. In case they decide to do what is right we would update this post, but as of now nothing has been done.

Mariana, at present the business is non-operational. On your initial cancellation the world was unaware of how badly this pandemic would not only impact lives but also livelihoods. All of your emails have been responded to timeously and clearly. The initial stating the terms of a refund offered and the second, once South Africa was in what would be a 5 month lockdown on any tourism activities even being considered, stating very clearly that we would honour our commitments as soon as the business was able to start generating an income. This is yet to happen. We at present, have retrenched 18 staff after attempting to keep them on a short time or stipend basis simply to ensure they are able to eat. We have received zero assistance from rentals, insurance or other operating expenses even when slimming them down to the core. South Africa is on no travel lists to most of the world and even if tourists could grace our shores we are in the midst of our third alcohol ban and level 3 lockdown with gatherings, beaches and most tourist activities not allowed which is the essence of a Bikes 'n Wines tour. Most travelers that empathize with the dire straits that our country is in at present have either been understanding with our delayed promise, or have claimed through their own travel insurance. We have attempted to pivot our business entirely, to at least be in a position to offer employment to the tour guides that work for us as they are unqualified to work in other sectors. We truly believe that keeping food on a family's table is more important at present than a refund that we will be happy to pay as soon as the business is in a position to do so without completely liquidating. We truly wish you had attempted to contact us before attacking us on a public forum as we believe at heart people are all good, would stand by our beliefs and understand our decisions at this point. We do intend to honour our promises whether it be when we are able to once again welcome tourists or have gone into full liquidation. Bikes n Wines

It was so well organised from start to finish. Our kids were also excellently catered for with their snack and juice pairing which went down really well with the parents. We absolutely loved the entire day. The guides were excellent, the equipment was in perfect condition and all of our different cycling levels were catered for. THANK YOU!!!

My friend and I enjoyed this bike tour. Our guide was fantastic! It was well planned. We had a private tour because it was at the beginning of things shutting down due to COVID-19. Each stop we were treated to some unique pairing with the wine, so it was really fun! The wineries we went to were nice. One thing we didn't know is how hilly the tour was going to be. We wore sandals, which was a mistake. Make sure to wear appropriate shoes for biking and comfortable clothes. Unfortunately, my friend got 4 flat tires throughout the ride. So, it didn't go very smoothly. However, our guide worked so hard to quickly replace the tire. We ended up having to walk back on the final leg. We give our guide 5 stars for how fantastic he was!
