- NaomiRGreenBordon, United Kingdom234 contributionsIdyllic so close to Cape TownFollowing a recommendation from a friend we booked two nights in the Ambassador Suite. We had a great time, you couldn’t help but relax as you walked through the door. Game drives with Johannes were the particular highlight, he was extremely knowledgeable, caring and accommodating remembering the things we were interested in and making sure we got full enjoyment from our experience. We learnt so much from him and laughed plenty too. There were a couple of tiny issues we raised and the team went above and beyond to resolve them for us. We would absolutely return, it’s such a bonus it’s easily drivable from Cape Town so no need to fly off.We were thrilled to read your review - the antire team thanks you.Written 4 January 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 November 2023
- Malcolm D15 contributionsIt’s brilliant, just do it....!OK, so travelling the last few miles from Cape Town, a few doubts might just creep in. No phone signal, no tarmac, we wondered…. But, boy, were we wrong. It’s literally an oasis - surrounded on all sides by spectacular mountains, with huge, clear skies and a delightful set up. Amazing, attentive staff, lovely rooms (go large!), great food (wine too) - all this before we even mention the wildlife. ‘Guaranteed’ to see the big 5 was a big promise, delivered with ease. We saw them on every trip, led by our brilliant, sympathetic driver (Prosper) who knows and loves the place in equal measures. A delightful 2 days I’d recommend to anyone, hand on heart. You write so descriptively! - Global203580750131 contributionA new benchmark in company of high precedentsInverdoon challenges (and indeed exceeds) international precedents with their charismatic hospitality and peace. It is such a privilege to watch a conservation effort come together so beautifully, and meticulous attention paid to guest satisfaction and peace of mind (and actual quiet - the likes of which you'll scarcely believe). Certainly, by far and away, the premier game reserve experience of South Africa, and an absolute return-destination, as I'm confident all guests would agree. My humble gratitude for the experience! We are humbled by your kind words and observations. - Susana MMenlo Park, California12 contributionsIncredible TimeJust a few hours out of CapeTown, this is the perfect mini-safari experience for those short on time. We went as a group of 3 and had a wonderful time. A special shout out to Arshlee, our guide. He was fun, personable and really wanted to give you a good experience. Spent the extra time looking for the animals. We paid extra for the Cheetah Experience and it was well worth it. The caretaker is really lovely and we got to see the Cheetahs up close. The star gazing was included, although the particular evening we went, seemed like our guide was a bit frustrated with group not paying attention to her lesson. Everyone is tired at the end of the day, guests and guides alike, so perhaps a more chill approach would be more appropriate. I had a wonderful in-room massage, the food was lovely and anything you requested from staff would be accommodated. I do wish they had a morning coffee bar in the lobby for those skipping morning game drives but would def reccomend and come back.Thank you for your lovely review and feedback. We do look forward to your return, Susana!Written 4 January 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 4 December 2023
- Geoffrey T4 contributionsDecember 2023Big shout out to Ashlee Nyoni who was our wildlife guide for two outings into the bush, a truly professional and knowledgeable teacher and lover of animals. We saw all of the best animals in the reserve and I was the luckiest to see for the first time, and to point out to him, the first ever sighting of a newborn baby hippo, December 16, 2023. I shall celebrate it's birthday every year! Inverdoorn was a great experience and I would recommend it for anyone with just a short time to go into the wild...How magical! What an indelible experience. - Julian BGibraltar30 contributionsAmazing place for a first time safariOur first safari and we really enjoyed it. The food was delicious, home cooked and healthy, the resort was beautiful and relaxing. A nice distance away from the city hustle and bustle. The morning and evening game drives are great. We got to see a load of animals on each drive. The lions are kept separate at the moment as they are waiting for the ostrich population to grow before they are released into the main reserve. But that way you get to find them easily and take great photos. They have a special area for rescued cheetahs that they are preparing to hunt so they can be released too. You get to see elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, rhinos, hippos, lions, ostriches, wildebeest, antelopes, springboks and more. The night time star viewing is spectacular. Recommend it. The staff are lovely and very helpful. Overall we loved it and recommend as a first time safari. Perhaps if you have done other safaris it’s not as big an area and maybe not for you.Thank you for your informative review! In particular, our guide, Arshlee was brilliant! He is warm hearted, humorous and a wealth of knowledge who made sure we had a great experience. Arshlee is also the guide who does the night time star experience - so interesting! Arshlee made us feel very safe and ensured we saw 4 of the Big 5 at close quarters as well as so many other animals. Day 1 - Arrived from Cape Town 3 hours drive at 11am, we were welcomed with Sparkling wine with a great introductory forgot his name however from there went south , eventfully sat under the stretch canvas for an hour waiting for what we were not sure as we were not told , eventually i asked can i go get a water as it was 40 degrees, they said oh yes you can sit there then wait for lunch which was served at 2pm so arrived at 11am , waited until 12 , moved to the eating area from 12 until 2pm still havent gone to freshen up as the rooms werent ready , after food at 3pm i went to go ask and a game ranger lady went to go check she then said yes so we went after eating a chick wrap as the cottage pie wasnt to the chef Standards + wasnt happy however the cottage pie was the filling in the wrap, shower had 0 pressure and was rusting away from the salt from the borehole water( I Did take images)
Hour and half later we went on a game drive which was awesome i must give that credit as they had extensive knowledge and animals were beautiful.
Dinner was great had a steak and glass of wine perfect.
Day 2 : Breakfast was average with Orang Juice , Spur most likely better,we then went to the pool , the back section of where there is afdak to hide from the sun , extremely dusty full of mosiquitos as well , now i understand we in the bush sure no problem HOWEVER the dust was BAD at least a month old , we had to go find a waiter to be served a drink by the pool several times he still didnt get the point to check up on guests by the pool , Lunch chicken burger , chicken was dry , roll was rock hard and chips werent cooked correctly.
Dinner : Yellow tail came ice cold and ladies fillet came ice cold waiter then said can he go warm it up , also asked how was the food chef wants to know EVERYONE said there werent happy as we were all talking amongst our selves, desert was rock hard with ice cream.
Overall 2 out of 10 General Service
Game Reserve 8 out of 10 (Rangers & Wildlife Only)
If they are willing to give us a second chance to stay there again we would but i pray all above was taken into account.
More staff , More cleaning , More up keeping , General Manager to be around at all times

I could cut and paste what NG42 has written about this place. The review was spot on. I don’t know where these other reviewers who give this 5 stars have been, it certainly wasn’t Inverdoorn.
There is very little communication for the guests, everything was passed on by word of mouth between us. Was the trip to the open air zoo on or off?
The weather didn’t help but there was no forward planning for this eventuality. The manager was off site so there was no ownership of the situation.
One of the so called morning game drives was cancelled without notice leaving guests bewildered about what to do. Having got up at 6.00am they hung around for hours. They were told breakfast was being served for 8.30.
Because of heavy rain outdoor dining was impossible so we ate in a dark ,gloomy and airless round dining area with only two small windows. There was one poor soul serving unappealing food in a canteen atmosphere. There were four members of staff hanging around the entrance looking bored.
On first impressions the bedroom and bathroom looked good but there was no hot water and the electrical installation was extension leads running everywhere. A safety hazard.
No one was taking responsibility, simply no leadership. Staff were clearly demoralising. We had more interaction with the gardeners.
This whole experience was a huge disappointment and waste of money.

Read mixed reviews before coming which made me a bit nervous - but have to say the Kughana tented camp is absolutely brilliant. Really great service and incredible food (both quantity and quality). The elephant visit is an obvious highlight - but does hint towards the tourism/zoo nature of the park. I've done safari's all around Africa and whilst this definitely is seems more of safari park/rehab centre, they have a good range of animals and knowledgeable guides. My partner had never been on safari before and absolutely loved it. Drive from CT really isnt too bad - only about 30mins of unsealed road (but would recommend SUV for comfort)

Family of 4, kids 8 and 11. Great seeing all of the animals in the wild, we saw hippos, rhinos, elephants, giraffes, springboks, buffalo and even the elusive aardvark. If you are going when we went, July 2022, (their winter) PACK WARM CLOTHES! It is wooly hats, down jackets and gloves cold on the jeeps despite the blankets. And we are from Canada.
Other than that (and I’ll be the first to admit that we should have been more prepared) it was great. Our guide Joannes was super knowledgeable and an expert driver. Food was great, and contrary to some reviews, piping hot and delivered with very friendly and competent service. Room was immaculate and huge, (if cold due to winter) - bathroom rivalled anywhere we’ve stayed. If you’re comparing this and Aquila, they’re owned by the same people; inverdoorn is one hour further away from capetown on a punishing gravel road and Aquila appears to be more kid oriented; probably would have been better for us. Having said that inverdoorn was magical and both us and the kids had an amazing time.

Absolutely fabulous is a good phrase for it. I couldn’t have asked for more, a 15-hr flight and a 3 -hr car journey it was worth every minute. A NOT TO BE MISSED EXPERIENCE.
We stayed with our young son (5) for 2 nights which was great as you get 4 game drives (2 morning, 2 evening). The moment we got there was top notch service with offering of a drink and snack. Everyone is so pleasant and lovely and willing to help.
The food was pretty good, you can’t be that picky of an eater but if my 5 year old can eat here who eats about 5 things then it’s possible for anyone. We had a variety of food including chicken, fish, steak, lamb, etc. breakfast had eggs, toast, yogurt, fruit, etc. They even brought out marshmallows to roast over the fire one night 😃 even for woman’s day they left a nice gift for all the women visiting ❤️
Now on to the game drives. Mickey (sorry if I spelled it wrong) was our guide and was unbelievable. She took the time to answer any question we had, very informative and intelligent. She was also very good with our (know everything) 5-yr old and asked him different questions to keep him very engaged. She was thoughtful about each drive and where to go on the reserve and got us out of a bit of a predicament with a very big elephant. 😉 appreciate her patience and agility throughout the whole 2 days, and multiple stops to see Crazy Harry (a fun loving ostrich)
Accommodation was beautiful. We had a family chalet that had 2 rooms and a massive bathroom. Everything was super clean and neat and the little notes and weather updates are extra special.
The place is stunning. It gives you such an appreciation of nature and the surrounding views and that you are in their home, not your own. In todays society this is a rare occasion.
My only suggestion is providing binoculars for the guests as sometimes animals are far away (which is ok!) otherwise bring a small pair of your own if you can. The temperatures can vary quite a bit since you’re in the Karoo so remember to bring warm and cold clothing.
I couldn’t have asked for better. Thank you for an unforgettable experience.

We had a fabulous two night stay at Inverdoorn. The location and scenery is stunning, we saw so many animals (4 of the Big 5) plus many others.
The food provided was buffet style for breakfast, lunch and dinner with tasty options to choose from including some local dishes. Our ranger Arshlee was amazing. He was so friendly and funny and knowledgeable about the area and animals. He went above and beyond for us to ensure we got the best shots of the animals and got as close as possible whilst still being safe.
The itinerary is tailored for a one night stay with welcome lunch, evening game drive, dinner then an early morning game drive before departure. So for two nights we repeated this schedule however this meant we had time to relax at the pool, get a couples massage and see even more animals. Overall an incredible stay and a beautiful holiday!

The game drives were the highlight and Ashlee our driver went out of his way to find everything we wanted to see including all the birds. The staff at the Lodge are all friendly, helpful and efficient which makes mealtimes a treat. The food is delicious, tasty and plentiful and our vegetarian couple were amply catered for.
I gave a 4 rating as our room was a bit lacking. Although very clean and neat, the bathroom is dated and I'd have loved an electric blanket or hot water bottle in the cold weather.
We stayed for two nights and I'd highly recommend this as it gives one time to fully experience this unique area.

The game drives were great. Outside of that, not worth the cost. From the booking process to the actual stay we were challenged at every point. The service and meals provided from the team were appalling. Their knowledge of vegetarian food was limited. We needed to repeat our requirements constantly. Got told by the chef he was not made aware of our dietary needs. When the resort ran out of water from 10pm on day 1 to 11pm on day 2, only at 5pm they found an alternate option which was too late. None of the amenities could be used because there was no water to shower in thereafter. With no water also meant no Covid protocols were followed. When we finally checked out and complained they said they would have someone reach out to us. It’s now a week later and still nobody has reached.

Thank you for your review, although we are saddened to read this. It is most unfortunate that you did not specify your vegan dietary requirements amongst your party with Reservations during your booking process, as we delight in offering our vegan guests a delicious menu. It is most unfortunate that there were water issues during your stay at our remote location, and do we do apologise profusely, but the ample supply of waterless hand sanitiser at the reserve, ensured that all Covid protocols were followed.

We stayed at Inverdoorn in February. I understand that the resort has opened recently after a long closure due to floods. Regretfully, we found the staff to be miserably underprepared and also mostly unconcerned.
The orientation was hurried and basic, none of us could fully understand what activities were there or how to make use of all of them. The food was good but served in a lackadaisical manner, there were frequent shortages of plates and cutlery.
We booked the higher-end suite but nobody was fully aware of the additional facilities/services that came with the suite.
The game drives and night drives were badly managed, delays, confusions and mistakes all around.
There was no manger available, despite repeated requests she did not agree to meet with us. I sent an email highlighting the problems to her after our stay and received no response.
On the whole, a nice place but badly mismanaged and therefore quite avoidable.

The experience was fantastic overall. Inverdoorn exceeded all my expectations and then some, I’d really highly recommend everyone to visit it at some point.
Dolfie, our guide, was really informative and energetic. He provided a lot of information on our drives about not only the animals, the birds but also the bush and how everything works together. I’d highly recommend Inverdoorn and Dolfie as a game ranger. I will probably never forget the rumen, reticulum, omasum and the abomasum. It was really nice to hear and see how much everyone at Inverdoorn cares for the animals in the game reserve!
We also participated in the Cheetah conversation drive where we got to see some of the Cheetah they are rehabilitating up close. It was super special and awesome to see places like Inverdoorn helping conserve and grow the Cheetah population. And seeing the Cheetah run was super special!
The food was really good, with a very large selection always paired with lovely starters, mains (buffet style) and great desserts. The wait staff and cooks were really friendly and polite and just amazing overall.
The accommodation was really nice, clean, spacious and cleaned every day with nice surprises or notes about the next day in the room too.
As a last note, Harry the ostrich was very special. I can’t wait to come back to see him again.

As a last note, Harry the ostrich was very special. I can’t wait to come back to see him again.

Da Città del Capo organizzano trasferimento per arrivare nella loro zona e poter alloggiare da loro per il Safari?
Written 28 May 2019
Due to the travel between Cape Town the Safari becomes a full day but the actual Safari (including a buffet LUNCH) is only a half-day excursion.. They also do overnight stays which include the Cheetah runs and seeing the more nocturnal animals (Meerkats etc.).. Hope this helps.

Hi, personally I don't know if there is a diffeence in price as i have alwsys gone direct via email to Inverdoorn. I usually have questions I need to ask them as wrll.
Sorry couldn't have been more help.

I'm confused which tour operator to use for the Inverdoon safari -any recommendations.

Invendoorn is a private game conservation reserve, so they conduct their own ‘safari’ drives. So, you just need to reserve a tour and get yourself there. If you are not mobile, check with invendoors on options: they may be contracted with tour operators to get visitors there, or can suggest options. Hope this helps.

How bumpy are the safari drives? Do the drivers drive quite fast? Say for someone with a back back or a pregnant woman? Thank you
Written 31 March 2017
The rides are a little bumpy depending on how many are in your group and if you are sitting the back. The drivers don't go very fast and someone who is pregnant it depends on how far long they are in the pregnancy. As for the bad back the vehicle ride could mess with them a little.

Hello. I am interested in the selfdrive safari for one day. How does it work? How much is it? Thanks
Written 23 March 2017

Hi. - these reviews look great and particularly the cheetah conservation dimension.
Can we manage this in a day without too much of a rush, driving over from Franschhoek where we have booked to stay 13th - 15th March?
Are roads good if we are self drive for example?
Our thanks

yes you can manage it from FH which puts you closer to Inverdoorn than my journey from Cape Town. The last part of the journey is on dirt road which is slow going but scenic. From memory it took us maybe 45 mins from that point approx 20 miles. Allow more time than Google Maps says. We added an extra hour and used it.

Is there enough to keep two young children (5 and 6) entertained? They will love being on safari but I was planning a four day stay. Is that too long?
Written 15 June 2016
The length of time that you as a family spend there is up to the family as individuals. You know your kids so I believe that should be the starting point. Treat it as you would Winter in Europe when snowed in. Forewarned is forearmed it is said so use this as a start. Kids are not all the same so focusing on how you can ALL be entertained for the duration of the 4 days should stand you in good stead. Are the stars shining at night? Let them sleep in the afternoon etc as the safari is only part of the experience. Hope this helps Ursula

Contact the Lodge - I am sure they would be able to help. Their staff members were very competent and helpful...
