Organised this trip at very short notice (two days notice) having found their details online. Very quick and easy contact via whatsapp. My husband and I are mid 30s, and play a lot of sports, however we had not done any hiking/climbing before. Despite these, we opted for the "India Venster" route, which they describe as "Involves scrambling and exposure to heights (narrow ledges – nothing extreme) about 15% of the way, so you do need a head for heights". Darren was an excellent guide, and talked us through the more tricky climbing bits in a Twister like way "left hand on this rock, right leg against this rock" etc. While I do not have a particularly good head for heights, he was very reassuring, and calm in his approach, and I felt confident that we would be safe despite the bad conditions.
Given the close fog and drizzle, we did not stop to take many pictures, and so it was a relatively quick climb, I believe sub 2 hours if I recall correctly, and from the top we could not see a single thing! Fortunately the cable car was open when we got to the top, so we took that back down the mountain.
Really recommend the company - good communication, confident climbers, and good instruction. Thank you very much for a very enjoyable morning!

I've hiked Table Mountain with Pietro on two separate occasions now. Once by myself in 2014 with a group of tourists and then this past January 2020 with my husband and two tourists from the UK. If your on the fence, go for it! I booked Table Mountain walks at the last minute (both times) and was able to hike the next day.
Pietro picked us up from our hotel in Cape Town around 5:30 am and drove us to the bottom of the hike. We did the Platteklip Gorge trail. He even had snacks and water to share. We were there as the sunrise was about to come up and started hiking before most people showed up. This is a steep "walk" and Pietro is accommodating to people of different fitness levels. He stops regularly for breaks and will set a pace that all are comfortable with. If you don't exercise regularly or have issues doing cardio, this might be tough for you but otherwise, you should be fine! It took us about 2 hours to get to the top of the mountain. Pietro was kind enough to take photographs throughout. We made it to the top just about as the cable car started bringing people up and it was starting to get crowded as it was the holiday season. We got plenty of photographs and took the cable car back down.
During my trip in 2014, I was there in August, and it happened to be the one week out of the year that the cable car was down for maintenance and we had to hike back down. I promise hiking down was harder than hiking up. If you're up for the challenge, brace yourself for loose rocks and jelly sore legs afterwards.
Afterwards we felt so accomplished and invigorated by our hike we were ready to take on the day! This is an absolute must if your visiting Cape Town. If you're looking for more of a challenge, try one of the more challenging hikes offered by Table Mountain Walks. Hopefully I'll be back to walk with Pietro again!

Yesterday we climbed the Table Mountain over the Skeleton Gorge route. Lynette as a tour guide made this day with her experience and diverse knowledge about botanic, history, culture, and the route itself to an unforgettable adventure.
The trail offered a high variety of different experiences and beautiful views over the city bowl and its surroundings. We were a small group out of lovely people which were all empathetic, considerate and took care of each other. I do strongly recommend to go on Table Mountain with Lynette and would definitely do it again!!! Thank you very much!

I have been on several hikes guided by the professional, knowledgeable and exceptional guide Margaret Curren! I highly recommend guided hikes with this expert guide from the Cape. She is always punctual, joyful and she certainly has the most knowledge on the best hikes in South Africa, birdlife, plant species, history, land and so much more. Margaret is not only an expert in her field but she is also a really warm-hearted, kind, and special person who happily lends an ear to anyone wanting to have a fulfilling conversation, during one of her wonderfully peaceful and beautiful guided hikes. You can choose the hike and the time, she is flexible and also prepares you with information about your chosen hiking trail. South Africa has many beautiful hikes and with Margaret, your guaranteed to walk the trails which will lead you to the most magnificent views, and you will get to them safely as well. Book a guided hike with Margaret and you will be grateful that you did!

After an unrecommended amount of a lack of planning pre-arrival to Cape Town a late booking of a table mountain hike turned out to be a personal highlight of the trip. With the cable car shut for maintenance, my dad decided to sit this one out. And so, in the morning, around 6 am, 'hike expert' Darren drove me and himself to the bottom of the Plattenklip Gorge walk. Despite a fog surrounding the summit causing wet hair and clothes my spirits were not dampened. Darren had superb knowledge of the wildlife, rocks and surrounding area which spread throughout our, if I say so myself, rapid ascent to the top. Despite the speed, I felt more than catered for with tips for a first time hiker and frequent check up on my continually tiring legs. However, what was tiredness when there was the motivation of the thought of reaching that ever closer summit of the mountain? Table mountain walks 'rounded' off a brilliant few days in Cape Town and I would recommend to anyone who is travelling to climb to the top with one of these guides.

We were visiting Cape Town to watch the cricket test between South Africa and England. As neither of us is great with heights it was suggested that we did the Platteklip Gorge hike with Pietro. He collected us at 5.30 so we could start hiking at 6. We went at a very steady pace and had plenty of time to take photos. We were very lucky as we had stunning views all the way up. The walk is pretty steep and we are quite fit but Pietro checked that we were OK and put in regular stops. Remember to take water ( apparently some don't) and some snacks.
We would have liked to have hiked all around the top but, as has been mentioned a number of times, the queues for the cable car both up and down can get very long. As we wanted to get back to the cricket we decided to come down which was a great shame.
If you want to hike around the top it strikes me that you could go up on the cable car at a quieter time, hike around , take a book and sit up there enjoying the views then have an early dinner and come down on one of the later cable cars.
Would definitely do this again and would definitely use this company. I quite like the idea of a multi day tour.

We did an early morning hike with Pietro and really enjoyed ourselves. Pietro was great, very knowledgeable and went at exactly the right pace for us. I would recommend him as a good choice for anyone interested in climbing Table Mountain with a guide.

We cannot recommend this enough! Lynette was a brilliant guide and made what could have been a standard walk up the main drag to table mountain, an unforgettable hike with so much knowledge of flora and fauna and general knowledge of the area and beyond. I’m scared of heights and Lynette chose the route accordingly and it meant I could really relax and enjoy the hike whilst also feeling challenged and it was wonderful when we reached the top. We stopped to take in the views and Lynette was kind enough to help with pictures. We walk a lot back in the UK and I am so glad we got a guide for this walk, it made it a memorable experience and we got to see lots of parts of the national park that we didn’t realise existed, not just focusing on getting to the top of table mountain - but that’s amazing too! We felt really safe and well looked after which meant we had a brilliant time. Book a guide - it makes a real difference!

Lynette was fantastic! So knowledgeable, kind and patient. We did India venster and although she warned me there is some scrambling on the trail (I didn’t really know what that meant), we decided to go with it and pushed ourselves out of our comfort zone. At the first scrambling spot, I froze in my tracks and panicked, but Lynette had everything under control, made me feel so safe and led me through that section with ease. The sense of achievement after that is amazing!! ☺️ We loved our day with her and learned quite a bit about the flora and fauna on the mountain as well. Def. Recommend her to anyone going on a guided hike ☺️

We did the Kasteelspoort hike with our guide Kathy. She arrived on time, made sure we were well equipped with the right clothes and water, and even agreed to make a little pit stop for us coffee addicts so we could get caffeinated for the day.
Kathy was really friendly and patient throughout the whole hike, and was informative with the plant life that we encountered along the trail. Kasteelspoort is a long but very beautiful trail, and also a much quieter route, allowing one to take in the surroundings. I would highly recommend this walk up the mountain.
It was a windy day hence we were unable to take the cable car down as planned, however Kathy gave us the option of extending the hike so we go down Platteklip Gorge which we went with. Overall a long but very enjoyable hike and was the highlight of our trip to Cape Town. Would highly recommend!

Buongiorno, mi sapete dare qualche indicazione per fare i trekking che portano sulla Table Mountain? Da dove partono?
Written 1 August 2018
The trails start from different locations, one from Tafelberg Rd, the others from Camps Bay, Theresa Ave and Kirstenbosch Gardens.

If i could only do one walk/hike, which would you recommend? Table Mountain walk or Lion's Head walk?
Thanks,
Carmela
Written 31 March 2018
I would do Table Mountain. Lion's Head is also lovely but does get busy. I also do Lion's Head for the sunrise so with the very early start you are finished around 8.30a.m. so you could possibly do both but not on the same day!

Hi, how fit do you need to be to do this walk? My father, 67 and uncle 72 are visiting Cape Town in March for the first time, I would like to see if we can do this as this would be very special. They are not hikers but they are both in good health conditions.
Written 15 January 2018
Thanks you for your enquiry. A reasonable to good level of fitness is preferable. The route is steep and all stepped so especially for an older person regular aerobic exercise is a prerequisite.. The terrain is uneven in places so good balance is essential - the route is not technical but most would regard it as strenuous.

Can tickets be purchased AT the cable car or do they need to be purchased online in advance?
