What an amazing museum, so different to your usual tourist attraction. A bit difficult to find as it is off a dirt-track road but our sat nav found it okay, We were met by Les Boshoff, the owner who is 85 years old and set up the museum in 1978. He kept popping up as we walked round and had so much information to give us.
The museum is open to the public and he hires out cars for weddings but they mainly used for movies, advertising and photo shoots.

Most Capetonians are familiar with the scrapyard of old cars visible from the N1 on the way to Paarl . Most probably don’t know that it’s an old car museum - We nosed our way there on a day drive and discovered the Wijnland Auto Museum . Fascinating! Besides a huge yard of rusty old cars, organized (sort of) by type it seems, there’s a warehouse of beautifully restored vintage cars. Quite the trip in nostalgia . Owner may be around to chat - his partner was there when we visited and gave us the background to this amazing obsession. Photographers go early morning or late afternoon for good light . It’s a photographer / artists /kids delight . There’s a plane there that you can board for a couple of selfies in the cockpit. Very fun. Note the Cape Garden Centre next door has a huge kid friendly restaurant for refreshments. For a full -on kids outing the Bugzplaypark is right there too.

What a sight! I love classic cars. It was nice venturing through the property and view all the cars.

I took my 12 and 9 year old and paid R250 total to look around. The cars inside are interesting, although nothing spectacular, and the cars outside are mostly old scrap - curious to someone interested in automotive history. Going on board the Convair was the best part - you can sit in the cockpit. Overall a nice way to spend an hour or so, but rather pricey for locals.

This is the most fantastic museum I have visited in South Africa. It has lots of vintage cars as well a Convair plane.

A most unusual and odd museum or scrap yard full of rusty body work and some old cars.
Even an old aircraft Convair 580 to explore.
Loved it - the wife wasn't quite so impressed !
Go have a look....

This is a great place to visit and we will definitely go again. There are so many great cars hiding away from sight inside. All you see from outside are old rusting cars and that plane next to the N1. Great story behind that plane.

The friendly owner showed us around and had many great stories to tell about almost all the cars. He kept my kids' attention the whole time and when he started one of the most expensive cars in SA my kids was blown away. One of my grade 7's fell in love with a already very old car she's sure she's going to use for her matric dance 5 years from now.
