We did a Eat Like a Local tour on our first full day in Cape Town and think it‘s the best introduction to the city you can get. It’s a great way to get to know the vibe of the city as well as local food and drink gems we would probably never have found.

Zee was our guide and she is a lovely person, passionate about her city and its people. The different food and drink places are at the centre of the tour, but you also walk around town and are shown various spots of the city. Zee did a great job telling us about the history connected with each spot in a very relaxed, non-lecturing way and adding personal experiences and stories.

At the food stops, Rupesh, the founder of Eat Like a Local, joined us with two guests and added his experience and knowledge as a restaurant critic. Both Zee and Rupesh are more than willing to give you tips where to dine or go during your stay in Cape Town.

The food experience ranged from a Rooibos tea experience with lovely sweets to authentic Cape Malay and Afrikaans food, with a wine tasting in between, and it ended with a „honest“ chocolate testing. All of the places are authentic, unique and local.

Make sure to skip breakfast on the day of your tour because the food is plentiful and delicious - and you get your choice of coffee or tea as well as granola and yoghurt right at the beginning of the tour.

We can highly recommend this tour especially at the beginning of a trip to Cape Town.

This food tour stands out as the absolute best and most meticulously organized culinary adventure I've ever experienced. Rupesh and Sirhan, our extraordinary hosts, effortlessly blend information and humor, ensuring laughter throughout the entire experience. Their extensive travel experiences and credentials make them exceptional guides, and true ambassadors of Cape Town. The dining venues we explored were not only delightful but also tucked-away gems you'd struggle to discover on your own. We were treated like VIPs at every stop. The array of delicious dishes and drinks showcased a rich variety of flavors. Although we couldn't finish our last dishes, each bite was a culinary delight. The walking routes and points of interest between tastings were captivating, offering plenty of photo opportunities. Every minute was purposeful, filled with engaging activities and discussions. This tour seamlessly allows you to check off popular landmarks in the City Bowl area while indulging in fantastic food. I eagerly anticipate my return to Cape Town, with this tour already on my must-do list. Thank you for an unforgettable experience!

Absolutely loved this tour! My husband and I have both spent a lot of time in Cape Town visiting family over the years, but this was the first time we really explored the city, its history and its amazing food culture. Rupesh was an amazing guide - he has so much knowledge and really showcases the cool food scene that Cape
town has to offer. We ate so many delicious things and had so much fun - definitely come hungry! Couldn’t recommend this tour More - it was wonderful :)

Rupesh puts on a awesome tour. Learning about the history of South African cuisine from someone who clearly is very passionate about food was amazing. We went to six different places that were all unique in their own way and Rupesh provided a depth of knowledge about each spot that enhanced the experience. We were able to meet many of the local shop owners and everyone was incredibly welcoming. The food was exquisite and the drinks were spot on the whole tour. If you are looking to gain a better understanding and appreciation of the intersection between food and history, then this the only way to go. I highly recommend this if you are in Cape Town and am sure you will have a great time!!!

Ramesh was so personable and knowledgeable- he guided us through the town and can read his audience. We had an amazing time and should have done this after landing- even so all 4 of us loved the 5 star experience.
His personality shone through, we asked many questions and laughed a lot.
The places we visited were run by interesting people and the ingredients of the coffee, tea, rooibos, cake, rusks, local food, wine, chocolate and more were of a very high quality and in quirky places.
Seriously- do this and you will not be disappointed 👍

To start off, this is Rupesh's business, and Rupesh is our guide. He created this entire experience to highlight each aspect of Cape Town's cuisine, and curated his stops and the food served at each stop to tell a story of the history of the city. He is also a chef, so he was able to provide very specific information about how the cuisine developed, and gave suggestions on additional places to eat after the tour. We made friend with the other people on our tour, and saw them going to some of the places Rupesh recommended afterwards, just like we did.
The tour was a little over 4 hours, with just enough walking between stops to make room for what we would eat or drink at the next one, but not so much that it should limit anyone. I learned so much about Cape Town in general, and where to find good food on this tour, and would highly recommend it to anyone, even locals, as it will give you a new perspective on the food, and possibly some new places to frequent during your time in the city.

Highly recommend Eat Like a Local Cape Town for a wonderful mix of history, culture and the food of Cape Town, Our guide, Rapesh, was very engaging and informative. He was not only knowledgeable about the different food cultures of Cape Town but made the day a fun adventure.

We had done food tours all around the world and this was one of the best and most in depth. You can tell Rapesh really loves and is passionate about food. There is a lot of food and drink on this tour so come hungry and enjoy!

Rupesh curates such a wondrous food and culture experience that you will wish you had done this immediately on arriving in Cape Town! What a fabulous way to come to know a city and its history, through its food, its neighborhoods, and through the eyes of a fun, intelligent food-loving guide. He went out of his way to create an experience that we in particular would love, paying attention to nuances of what we’d said and adding special treats to the tour in accordance with those preferences. I am so very impressed, and so happy to have found this experience! Really.Look no further.

This food tour was fantastic! We went to 9 different stops and had so many different foods, wines, brandies, and gins. The whole time, we learned the history behind the city but also how that history heavily impacted the types and flavors of food in the city today. Along the way, we learned about tons of other local bars and restaurants, outside of the ones we were specifically going to. This was hands down the best food tour we’ve ever done and we’d recommend this to anyone!

Excellent group tour. Rupesh provided excellent guidance across various areas of Cape Town. The mix between sweet and savory across various cultures with historical context just made this experience A+. Highly recommended to do early on during your trip to get to know the environment.
