About
We believe that travelling on the road in Africa changes you forever and we want others to experience this. We do this by stepping into the shoes of each of our travellers. We provide honest and personalised information and make it our mission to find the best trip for you to experience Africa. We want you to experience this extraordinary continent, as we have, with its breathtaking scenery, soulful cultures, local cuisine and of course, amazing wildlife. We listen to your needs and provide solutions specifically for you, backed by experience as our team has travelled on all the routes we offer. An easy way to explain what we do is this: We are similar to a mobile/cellphone store that stocks both Apple and Samsung. We can tell you about the differences and advantages of either and therefore have the benefit of an unbiased opinion. We also offer extremely competitive prices, so you get the best deal and choose the right tour while planning your African Adventure Tour.

I joined a Nomad overland truck and highly recommend it. The route was good, encompassing several game reserves and the kingdoms of Eswatini and Lesotho.

I used them to book a tour for Madagascar in July. Tammy S (Tamlyn) was instrumental in helping me pull it together. I'm going this summer w/3 other friends from all over the world and we are so excited. Tammy made is super easy and kept all of us in the loop.

Ingrid was amazing. Due to work commitments while already in Namibia my first contact with African Overland Tours and subsequent booking was very last minute. In fact just 5 days before the selected tour. On top of that I was working offshore and had dodgy wifi and no means to pay directly. Ingrid fielded my numerous questions with ease and amazing promptness. There were a couple of tense days waiting for final confirmation as to whether I could join the tour while Ingrid finalised availability of the safari lodges. But it all worked out. And what I time I am having!! Vehicle and tour route as advertised. Safari lodges better than advertised (or what I thought I was going to get!). And tour guide(s) very knowledgeable and a pleasure to travel with (actual company doing the tour is Namibia Experience). Absolutely top marks to Ingrid (take note Ingrid’s line manager as I see a Christmas bonus on its way...).

The tour started in Swakopmund and finished in Victoria Falls-twelve days filled with the wonders of nature and man. We were a rather mixed group but skilfully blended by our tour guide, Costa, and our driver, Gift- a dream team who explained, informed, added background to what we saw in front of us so that our understanding of Southern Africa was tremendously enhanced.
Our time in the Okavanga Delta was the highlight, the Pride of Africa glamping site already very special made more so by visits from hippos during dinner. Even though the journey into and out of the Delta is strenuous the wild life is abundant and is like watching a nature programme live. The flight over the Delta is worth the expense as well as the helicopter flight over the Victoria falls.
Food was great with generous breakfasts, lunches and dinners every day and sometimes morning/afternoon tea.
We took by far too many warm clothes which was the advice on the what to pack list, Pay attention to the type and size of luggage so it can fit into the limited space on the truck. Also, allow $20-30 per day for tips to guides, drivers etc.
All in all a fabulous experience.

We found this company, whilst researching for a potential first East Africa experience. We were very unsure of what we wanted to do and how we could do it. Our trip is to be a bucket list experience for a milestone birthday!
The support, detail and patience provided by Celia has been amazing. She provided us with so many options so we could try to include parts of Southern Africa as well however, unfortunately we couldn't stretch our budget that far.
We have settled on the 15 day East African Safari for September next year and just can't wait.
Thank you so much AOT and especially Celia!

We have booked aa tour with AOT for 2024. After looking at a number of options we went with AOT because of the enthusiasm and service provide by one of their agents, Reshma.
Reshma was very helpful in putting a plan together for us, providing additional experiences as we developed the plan.
If the booking experience is a sample of what the tour experience is going to be, then we are going to have a great holiday full of experiences.

My time spent in Namibia was amazing. Minette Thiart was my consultant from Africa Overland Tours. She did a fabulous job. I would recommend her anytime.

The attractions were lovely. We visited Etosha National Park... The animals were amazing. We went into the desert 🏝️ and climb the dunes. We travel through Damara land and meet the Himba people along with other tribes. We went to Swakomund on the Atlantic coast.
Our tour guide (Gregory) from Chameleon tours was also amazing and knowledgeable.

This was my best vacation to date.

Did 2 tours b2b booked through AOT - with brilliant guidance from Reshma as I was completely new to travelling this continent and hadn't toured before. Reshma was able to assist in organising the bookings, answered my many queries and was very prompt and clear in her communications with me. She sourced 2 tours - 18 days in SA and Cape Town to Vic Falls which were both amazing and full of once in a lifetime experiences (would highly recommend!). Outside of these tour bookings - Reshma helped advise on pre/post tour accommodation, visas, currency and how to navigate my way around the cities safely as a solo traveller. I felt safe with the knowledge imparted and trusted Reshma wholly. Already hoping to return again to Africa and book through AOT / Reshma again!

I booked a 7 day South Africa Garden Route Tour through African Overland tours. The communication organising my tour was brilliant! Thank you Huntley! The tour itself was ran by NOMAD, it was well priced and the guide stuck to the itinerary and even managed to fit in a few more activities which made the tour well worth it. Some activities were included but lots you still had to pay for which you really didn’t want to miss out on. My highlights on this tour were waterfall tsitsikamma hike and a swim in the waterfall (included), Fairview cheese and wine pairings (included), worlds tallest bridge bungee (price not included) and driving along route 62 was breathtaking. The accommodation included was basic apart from we stayed in some beautiful hotels for the last 2 nights which was such a treat (karoo art hotel and standford guest valley lodges). Food was included which saved lots of money, if you are a fussy eater I wouldn’t recommend as meals are basic with little variety although they did try their best to cater to vegetarians, GF and halal. The truck we travelled in was fine, it had usb ports, seat pockets etc which was great but seeing other companies, this truck was definitely outdated. Our tour guide wasn’t very passionate about his job which was unfortunate, my friend and I felt a little ‘lost’ and ‘confused’ about activities and the daily plans at times. Would recommend Nomad tours if you are looking for the most affordable deal! but if you have a bit more to spend I think it would be worth splashing out to have a more comfortable and passionate tour with more activities already included in the price. I will definitely be booking through African overland adventures in the future.
