After spending a week exploring on safaris at Kruger and Timbavati, we were ready to see another of South Africa's gems and found it south in Cape Town and along the Garden Route. We truly enjoyed seeing the penguins in a very natural, uncrowded, environment, away from all the tourists, (like on the Cape Peninsula site). We loved the seaside town of Hermosa, with its mesmerizing crashing waves. Sunset at Agulhus was beautiful, where the two oceans meet. Our guide at Oudtshoorn was very informative about the ostriches, but the "game drive" there was a bit lacking after seeing Kruger! We loved the canoe/hike activity to the waterfall in the lovely national park, and our son even bravely completed the bungy jump along with two other guests on our tour! His wife and dad and I were happy to just be on the bridge with him and watch! The lodging facilities were very nice along the route, and we especially liked the first one, with the brai bbq inside and the funky bar area. Seeing the many elephants at the waterholes at Addo was awesome, they are so interesting to watch. We luckily saw a lot of other wildlife as well. Having time to spend sampling local wine at a vineyard and walking on the beach was nice too, as this is such a beautiful area of South Africa. I can't say enough about our very upbeat, responsible, and friendly guide/driver Rochelle. She really made the trip fun and worthwhile. I was also grateful that our group of 12 had six people our son and daughter-in-law's ages, and six our ages! Everyone was happy! There is quite a bit of driving on this tour, but the places you end up in each night were worth it. Many thanks!
