    Great day out!
An amazing experience, beautiful park and our guide Desmond was fantastic, very knowledgeable, very witty and very considerate of the wildlife- he went out his way to make sure that the guests have the best experience. We seen 4 out of the big 5 here. The only downside is that there is a lot of vehicles going about and at one point we felt like we where in a traffic jam! Don’t let that put you off though, there is an abundance of wildlife.

    Self drive or tour?
Our research said we could self drive but the hotel staff said it was no longer allowed. So we booked a three hour bus tour. 1500R for three of us. Not worth it. I guess if you have no Bush experience and have never walked in the bush this might be good. We were disappointed and of course saw lots of private cars! We had been lied to. So the next day we paid 360R for our truck with 3 people for a day pass. In the first hour we saw more animals. We entered the park at 9 and by noon we had a list of So many animals, more than we had thought. Perhaps because we did drive off the paved road and left the tour group roads.Lunch at the center was good and reasonable price. Then we went exploring further. So marvelous. There are rest spots with water washrooms. And you don't need a truck or 4 wheel drive vehicle. Do a self drive.

Amazing animals, beautiful scenery and the best safari guide!
My first time at Pilanes was last month with the most amazing friends. I have been to many safaris before, but none could compare to this one, but that is only because we had a fantastic guide (Tshepiso) that made sure we saw as many animals as we could, and not only that, but that we could see them with the best view. You know your guide is the best, when all the other guides call on him on the transceiver (walkie-talkie) to ask where all the animals are. Not forgetting the sunrise and sunsets that rise and set over the hills in the park will you captivated and calling you to stay longer ;)

    Sun City recommended improvements
Advise to Sun City in general: Please remove Hard Rock Cafe and put another restaurant in place, one that actually serves tasty food. Please check the age restriction for the club as only under age kids were in there. Also please open the pool billiard even when the club is not open as we just want to play. Vibes is a nice enough place, but there is no dance floor. And the DJ only plays for 2 hours and he is a great DJ, so more hours are suggested.

    Absolutely stunning
From the moment we arrived to the second we left, we were in love with all things Pilansberg. The guides were friendly, knowledgable and genuinely cared for the wildlife within. Both tours we were delayed by a "traffic jam" of elephants, giraffes and assorted other animals, and the guides kept us out to enjoy and safely observe everything around us. The sunrise and sunsets are utterly breathtaking.

    Awesome Day Out!
An absolutely amazing safari experience. I went with a guide and another volunteer from the Ukutula Conservation Centre where I am currently volunteering. We saw many different animals and got more than we bargained for when we saw two male lions chasing off an intruding male. I will definitely return in the future as I plan to volunteer at the Ukutula Conservation Centre again so will have an excuse to come back to Pilansberg! Plus, we went for breakfast in the morning - it was very amazing!

It was a long game drive. I hear you can see the big 5. But we were unlucky. Huge game reserve with good dusty roads . Great flora too

In deciding where to try our first African safari, we chose Pilansberg because: (i) it is easily accessible from Jo'burg; (ii) it is malaria-free; and (iii) we were curious about the volcano crater. We LOVED it - saw 4 of the Big 5 (no buffalo) and lots of other animals.
My tips for other international travellers:

1. If you like elephants, rhinos, giraffes and various deer/antelope, you will be in heaven. Saw more than imagined!

2. All of our best sightings - elephant mama giving baby a sand bath, zebra crossing, baby leopard, baby rhino nursing, and lion pair devouring a wildebeest - happened before or after the park was open to the public. Stay at a lodge in the park if you at all can - it just doesn't seem like a day trip would be at all comparable.

3. If you want to see cats (lions, leopards, cheetahs) all the time, perhaps consider going to another park. There are apparently very few lions in Pilansberg as they were attacking too many zebras and so some have been moved to other parks. We had an amazing ranger and did see 3 lions and a baby leopard, but it was definitely touching and go. The logjam of vehicles at one spot when there was a sighting is worse than the traffic in any major city I have ever been to.

4. The rangers/trackers are key! Ours was anazingly observant - he would see an elephant ear flapping in the distance or smell rhinos and zip us over to see a herd. It was incredible and he made sure we had the most opportunities for animal sightings. We definitely would have seen only 10% without him.

5. Stay at a lodge with guaranteed small groups for safari drives. Ours said maximum of 10 people per safari tour and we ended up being only 2-4 people. It was amazing, but we saw safari trucks with 24 people, and they just looked hot, exhausted and crowded.

Amazing trip!!!

We loved our time at Pilansberg, we stayed for 4 nights and went on 8 Safari trip, we were very pleased with the variety and amount of animals we saw. Great Park if you want a location that’s malaria free, trip of a lifetime, we would love to go back one day.

Could have been wonderful. The park setting
is magnificent especially since the land has been reclaimed and extensive conservation has taken place. But we didn’t see an abundance of animals. The roads are terrible. Four wheel drives okay but anything else would be dangerous and minimize access into areas of the park. It all seemed very chaotic.

I absolutely loved the place and all the vast activities offered were amazing ❤️ I'm an animal lover so for me the opportunity to experience antelopes and other animals at such a close range was fantastic. The experience was soothing
