About
The Gary Player Golf Course needs no introduction. This world-renowned course was designed by Gary Player, and is the home of the Nedbank Golf Challenge, now part of the European Tour Race to Dubai. This picturesque 18 hole, par 72 walking course is surrounded by a 5km scenic running trail. Since its opening in 1979, the course has been acknowledged as South Africa's premier championship test of golf. The home of the Nedbank Golf Challenge since 1981, this immaculately groomed layout has received rave reviews from the world's top golfers, who agree that it is both demanding and fair. This course has been consistently rated as one of the best in South Africa, and compares with the best in the world. The first course in South Africa to be constructed to stringent USGA specifications, this layout is famed for its length (over 7000 metres from the championship tees), its dramatic backdrops of the Pilanesberg Mountains, and its spectacular indigenous vegetation that flanks the fairways. The first facility in South Africa to be built with multiple tees, the course can be enjoyed by golfers of all levels of skill, but even from the forward tees it remains a challenge. A distinguishing feature of the course is its greens complexes which allows for interesting pin positions on the clover-shaped putting surfaces protected by strategically placed bunkers.

We played at the Gary Player Country club this weekend and I was totally disgusted at the Pro shop when an elderly gentleman who had brought a doctors note regarding the use of a cart was abused, the guy behind the counter did not seem interested at all and simply brushed him off and told him that he cannot help him regardless.
This obviously made the old guy annoyed and he happened to say this F**ing place to which the guy behind the counter stormed after him and wagged his finger at him and was shouting that he was belittling him! Absolute nonsense totally unprofessional from the guy at the Pro shop. When the guests friend said that he was not belittling him he started shouting at him too, who does this guy think he is???? that was very unprofessional and disgusting behavior and if was my company I would fire that guy immediately as many people saw that and were all disgusted.

We travelled for two days and 1200 km’s to get here. You could have told us your greens had been hollow-tined and were running slow.... very disappointing that we still had to pay full rate with suboptimal greens. YES, when these are in good condition this course remains one of SA’s best.

Beautiful golf course, but a long one. Rough really difficult to get out of!
Can’t take a buggie, need a medical letter! Caddies really good. Saw lots of animals!

This one has been on my bucketlist for years and I finally played it. Walking course, in great condition, both the fairways, the, for europeans difficult rough because of the kikiyu grass, and the greens.

Not a very difficult course, and the fairways are wide, not too many trees, nor a great amount of water in play. But, designed by the man in black, a signature piece, that next to Fancourt, is now one of myfavourites. It slopes gently but not much, well positioned bunkers, not all in good shape...., drinking water on a lot of holes.

A caddy is a must, it gives a better experience, it will save you a few shots, and you contribute to his well being. The rate to play this course is ridiculously low, only € 60 pp, including the halfway house. Caddy at 300 rand minimum, worth all of it, and more.

Always enjoy the golf course as a great layout and a great test of golf. Staff could in general be friendlier but overall a good experience. The greens had been hollow tined so not as good as usual but I suppose they have to be done at some stage. My only problem was that we were not pre told about the hollow tining and there was no reduction in the price of the round.

Gary Player Golf 18 hole course is the venue for the annual Nedbank Pro Challenge which attracts golfers from all over the world.
It is set on the boundaries of a game reserve and if your are lucky enough you will see elephants and giraffe roaming on the surrounding hills. Small mammals like banded mongoose and various birds also keep you amused in between golf shots.
The course is immaculate and the greens are lightning fast. A walking course so be prepared to produce a medical certificate to qualify for a golf cart. The caddies are reasonably priced, at USD 20, and worth employing as they are beyond doubt shot savers on the greens and help with set ups for drives with their local knowledge.

Gary Player CC is in my opinion the best golf course in SA.
I know it is always difficult to compare coastal courses to inland / bushveldt courses but GPCC is a truely exceptional course.
The scenery is beautiful and looks into Pillansberg National Park .... we have even seen elephants on the other side of the fence and you always see baboons, monkeys etc
The course is in great condition however my major drawback is the staff.
From the two guys who work in the pro shop who are rude and unprofessional to the waitress who didn’t return my change for three coffees
The caddie master who put two four balls in front of us so we had to wait at half way house for twenty minutes
Great course but unfortunately bad and unpleasant staff
