I enjoyed myself in this nature reserve, I was away on business and decided to take a short left to Kagswane.
The initial directions on the app lead me to a farmhouse and not the entrance but that was a blessing in disguise because that’s where I met other patrons who were lead astray by their app as I was.
The entrance fee is affordable and I enjoyed seeing the waterfall quite close and personal. I did, however, expect a walking, running or hiking trail for patrons which was the only thing anti-climatic about the nature reserve

We drove 5 miles from our cottage at President Paul Kruger Guest Lodge arriving at 2PM. After paying 60 rand for 2 seniors, we drove ~5km on a wide 2 lane road up to a high veld where we spotted several Long-tailed widowbirds and 2 Sable bulls. Another few km brought us to the Visitor Center Campground and the entrance to the “Sable Loop”. This ~5km 1 lane paved lane turned out to be a dead end but it crossed a few small streams and over nice grazing areas where we saw Waterbucks, herds of Plains and Mountain Zebras and distant herds of Common elands.
This 13,000 acre park has beautiful grasslands in front of rock laden hills.

A great hike, tough and rewarding, very basic but decent overnight huts and facilities. Very exasperating at times as the trail markings in places are non-existent. The five of us between us battled several times to map read and calculate our position and find the trail again with lots of "bundu-bashing." Fantastic views to the north/Pilanesberg, west/Marico bushveld, east/Magalieberg, south/bushveld/farmlands. Lots of animal sightings including sable (twice) and springbok, hartebeest, zebra. Quite hot during the day in March though! We began at Witkruiskrans for the first night and Naga the second which makes for a shorter Day One and a longer Day Two, but it's nice to have the second night at Naga to relax, enjoy the surroundings, scenery, sunset and most of all the cool pool water at the end of the day. We warmed shower/washing water in plentiful buckets in the fires (shower didn't work at Witkruiskrans though, too leaky), and were supplied with plentiful firewood. There's running drinking water at both camps. The huts were clean and mattresses comfortable.

Now this is a perfect place to bring the family to enjoy a well deserved rest day. Beautiful nature and animals. Kids can ride their bikes freely without stressing the entire time.... we try to visit this place at least once a month. Hat's off to the staff and Management team

I am a regular visitor the reserve, the natural beauty is amazing to have right on your door step. They could really improve the marking of the hiking trails which appear and dissapear. The overnight securty has been an issue for a long time, especially for campers. I have never felt unsafe on a trail run or hike. The management also needs to look at regular visitors cards.
Still a good spot for a braai and for kids and adults to ride bikes without too many cars.

This unspoilt mountain reserve is an absolute gem! Magnificent views, big variety of birds and game, including sable antelope. Crystal clear mountain streams. Beautiful grassy plains, wetlands as well as fascinating rock formations.

Lovely and well maintained reserve but we have been robbed twice during our stay over the weekend. I was robbed while I was sleeping and someone unzipped my tent, came in and took what they wanted. It really was unpleasant. It seems people wait in the grass and as soon as you go to sleep they come by and try their luck

We liked Kgaswane so much that we actually went twice during our short stay in Rustenburg. Entrance fee was R40 pp + R20 for the car. On both occasions, there were very few other visitors. Consequently, it felt almost as though we had the place to ourselves.
We went for a short hike on both occasions, a really pleasant thing to do as long as it's not too hot. While taking the drive around the Sable Loop, we saw Zebras, various kinds of Buck, as well as a whole bunch of baboons. The road is asphalt throughout and in reasonable condition.
Be aware that no useful map of the hiking trails exists and the marking could be clearer in spots. Advice from staff can be variable.
Don't let that deter you though - Kgaswane really makes for a worthwhile (and inexpensive) day out.

Kgaswane is a hidden gem. It is in the Magalies Mountain Range and has beautiful scenery. There are antelope like Sable Eland, Waterbuck, Reedbuck, Impala and many other to be seen. There is also a stunning waterfall which can be accessed in the company of a park official. There are two two-day hiking trails as well as a group camp with dormitories. Camping is allowed, as well as day visitors.
