We were met by Jolene who was very kind and chatty and said we are welcome to walk around. Although old and perhaps needing some "TLC", we enjoyed all that this museum had to offer. Some facinating facts about the local Indigenous people.

My marriage reception was at the Museum, it was out of this world. The guests are still speaking about it and said that they never had such an experience. it was out of this world.

Visited the Kalahari-Oranje Museum in one of Upington's oldest buildings built by missionary Rev Schoder just two days ago.

After so many disappointing reviews, I told my tour guide driver, COBUS, that perhaps we should pass. Thankfully he disregarded me and took me. It was really a good visit. In part I attribute my pleasant and satisfying visit to him and in part to the lovely receptionist who was so welcoming and in part to whomever is the groundskeeper and caretaker.

I appreciate photography, typography and the history of the print press and there are several examples dating from 19th c.

There are a few historical images of founders and influencers. My certified guide filled me commentary. There is an informative and heartbreaking homage to of the historical events of the Upington 26 and conviction and other info of relating to the local history and the Lower Orange River.

The life size bronze sculpture by Patgetter(?) In front of the former church gives credit to how important the donkey was in this lower valley region especially in the beginning days...

I will post pics but honestly this pint size jewel with its random items and a ton of "read-between- the- lines " is just worth a stop. Please go and give yourself a treat to at least yourself a sense of Upington. I am happy I did!!

I was disappointed in the Kalahari Orange Museum, apparently the only museum in Upington. Inside was a shambles with alot of unlabelled miss matched junk. Although there were 3 Martini Henry doppies and a canon projectile in one of the cabinets. The wagons outside, degrading in the open air, breaks my heart as valuable treasures are being destroyed. Entrance was R30 per person and clearly this money does not go to the upkeep of this museum. I wish I had not visited here as I left angry and extremely disappointed.
