Worth the diversion to see the bloody nose which the British military machine took in this David and Goliath conflict. The men who fought for freedom against colonial oppression. Sad memories for many families but another page of history.

Whenever I pass through Kimberley I always make sure I make a turn passed Magersfontein battle site. The absolute peace and quiet of that now silent koppie where so many of our brave men stood to defend their farm and father. The road out there...More

This Magersfontein battlefield site was an awesome experience for us but you must be prepared to do a bit of walking to really get the full experience which we did. This battle was such an important part of our history, but it was also sad...More

We really enjoyed the museum with the displays and the movie that automatically starts when the door is opened. A map of the area is provided enabling visitors to find the monuments and the lookout platform. Striking monuments in remembrance of the fallen Highlanders and...More

We took a private guided tour of the Magersfontein battle site (with Jaco Powell, Cape Fox Tours) which included a visit to the Battlefield Museum. The site is well-maintained with paved paths to points of interest (wheelchair accessible). The museum is small but has plenty...More

Did a quick Google search on a return trip from the Western Cape - fortunately the sites were not hard to find. Dirt roads are in good condition and the main battlefield site as well as the Burger monument are easily accessible in a normal...More

Not that this site is brilliant, but it is precious because it is so rare to have the South African War showcased - it is politically more convenient to hide that the British were the colonizers and the Afrikaners and Black Africans joined forces to...More

This is a wonderful place to visit to learn more about the battles the Afrikaner Boers had to fight against the Englishmen in war. There is also a video show where it felt so real as if you were also there.

This series of battles leading up to Magersfontein are hard to find. There's almost nil tourist information outside of the web ( it's not like the Battlefield route towards Kwa-Zulu Natal which is reasonably sign posted). Consequently We hired a guide Steve Lunderstedt found on...More

As far as I know there are no guides available at the battlefield site or at the museum. If you search the web for 'tours Magersfontein' a few pop up leaving from Kimberley. The museum at the site is self explanatory and... More
