    Great experience
    I wasn’t expecting much, however I was pleasantly surprised with the display as well as the guide. If you can request a guide, I would suggest David. He was great, very informative and funny as well. He really made the tour as educational and enjoyable as possible!

    A fantastic experience
    A very informative trip, enjoyable and exciting as well thanks to our tour guide, David. It was my second time doing this tour but the guide made it more exciting than the first time. It's especially intriguing if you're interested in South African history and geology. A tour is also suitable for all ages - families, young and old, couples etc.

    Absolutely worth returning and bringing even a bigger crew with me, to experience such history of our country.
    We took so many photos, the whole place is amazing. Such a rich history of Kimberley a town not just of diamonds but one of many firsts. The old town is such a treat, especially after the movie. Mr David you, my guy, are the Real Deal. Thank you so very much

    Wish I had diamond.
    Wonderful museum with an informative guide called David who was a blast - pardon the mining joke. My son wanted to see the Big Hole. A real treat for anyone passing through to Cape Town or the other way round to Johannesburg. Stay overnight for a rest.

    Diamonds in the Big Hole
    I've been to the Big Hole before, more than 20 years ago with my parents. But this time I returned with my partner. We arrived just as the previous tour guide had started his tour, so we decided to grab a beer at a local restaurant and wander around the old town before rejoining the tourguide on his next outing. Entrance cost around 140 zar per person for the tour. The story of the big hole is essentially the story of Kimberley and capitalism. The big hole is the biggest man made hole made, ever. Purely for the extraction of diamonds, this period of time was called the Diamond Rush. The tour starts off with a very informative video, that reenacts all the major events of that time and that contextualises the Big Hole for those who will be viewing it. When I came here 25 years ago, the red bridge that is now the lookout point for the hole had not been built, so the experience for those traveling there now, post the De Beers Renovations of the aughts is completely different and definitely upgraded. If you find yourself in Kimberley, take an hour to go view the place that helped establish Kimberley as a town.

    Brilliant experience
    The actual price for this visit was ZAR140, and that will include a 20 min movie, a guide to show you around and you can walk the "old town". Its a brilliant museum and worth the price indeed. To get some knowledge about the hole itself, and the history of mining in Kimberley was fantastic, and the idea with the old houses to get an idea of miners lives was exiting. You should indeed treat yourself to this museum if you are in Kimberley. There are shops and refreshments at the museum.

    A must see exhibit
    Our second visit to The Big Hole and second time on the tour. David our guide made it very entertaining and informative engaging all those on the tour with fact and fiction - a very funny man. The replica township is a must either before or after giving you that true insight of stepping back in time. The pub in the “town” centre offer excellent pub grub.

A must visit! Our tour guide, David, had a good sense of humor and made it an enjoyable experience for all ages. He even made sure to include the little ones so that everyone could enjoy it and get a great view of the big hole and the museum. This is a great experience for families, friends, couples and even people going solo

Originally from Kimberley, and having gone to the Big Hole MANY times, I recently went with my 6 year old brother and my dad, and had anticipated that I would be a little bored. BUT, David was our tour guide...

He was absolutely fantastic - he made the tour really fun and exciting. Knows his stuff really well and was super informative. He was also very interactive with my us, and especially my brother, who had a blast learning about diamonds 💎

Experience = 10/10
David (our tour guide) = 20/10 🌟
