We were on a cruise so the driver Vusi picked us up at the port and drove us to St Lucia and the estuary. An hour each way and a two hour boat ride which was relaxing, informative, and fun to see so many hippos. Organizing it through Bev ahead of time was easy and everything was well done. The only reason I am rating it a 4 instead of a 5 is because of the cost. We paid $175 for the two of us, pretty pricey, especially when I see on line that the price is a bit lower now. Still, we are glad we did it. It’s so much better than going on a ship’s tour bus with 40 people - we had six so we didn’t have to wait around for stragglers, etc. So I would definitely recommend it but I’d negotiate the price a bit.

Thank you very much for the review as well as for noting that this was an exclusive trip-transfer hence the cost. Unfortunately, couch tours versus exclusivity does cost a bit more.

We booked our first Sunset Tour on the Eastern shores and it was so much more than we expected. We spotted rhino, hippo, buffalo, zebra, kudu, impala and had an amazing encounter with the elephants.
Bheki Yamkela was our guide, he has excellent knowledge of the park and animals as well as a wicked sense of humour. He is very professional and attentive and made sure we were always safe and comfortable, even when the elephants decided to make leaving the park difficult. We will be booking our next tour with him nd can recommend his services to anyone visiting the area.

Fabulous day - we saw so much! Lovely breakfast (unexpected!) great guide who was so knowledgeable, friendly and funny. Comfortable vehicle which was not overcrowded. We saw a lion, a family of cheetah, buffalo, rhino with baby, giraffe, zebra and so much more. Lovely barbecue lunch with delicious steak and salads. Incredible value for money - can't recommend highly enough, added to which there was excellent communication throughout from Nele, which made booking and payment very easy. Thank you, Heritage, we had the safari of a lifetime!

There is much to commend this four night experience; the raw African wilderness, encounters with wildlife while on foot, the bird life, washing nude in the Imfolozi and camping under the stars. To me it was a vivid taste of the wild Zululand of Shaka's day.

Unfortunately there is also much to detract from the experience.

The food, while well prepared, is very basic for the cost of the trip, and goes just far enough to feed the guests and guides. There definitely is no sense of generosity, and one gets the impression that the supplies provided are rationed (no more milk available after finishing our one liter of milk provided on the first night, and the one bottle of instant coffee only just made it through to Sunday morning for example).

While one could fill up on the carbs at dinner, the lunches were thin. So taking good day snacks is advised.

Regarding the equipment issued to us, while the backpacks were adequate to the task, the thin summer sleeping bags were completely inadequate for winter (one was even missing a zip), and some of the thin foam mats were dog eared and worn.

Staying dry was a challenge out at the bush camp. Two tarps are provided but make a very tight space for ten people, and they are not much good keeping folks dry in persistent or heavy rain.

My recommendation to those wanting to go on this package would be to take a light one man tent, your own sleeping bag and mat. In as much as this is meant to be a rugged, wild experience - there is nothing gained in having cold, wet nights lying crammed under a tarp.

Good rain gear is also a must. An all night watch is kept up at night by the fire, and there is no shelter for those on duty from the rain. A waterproof jacket/pants or plastic poncho is recommended.

We did a full day Hluhluwe Umfolozi tour. We met our ranger Phindi at Nyalazi Gate at 6am. First of all praise for Phindi, such a beautiful soul, happy to chat, friendly, very knowledgeable about the wildlife, animals, birds, plants and how they relate to traditional Zulu life, and boy can she spot wildlife. The drive around the park was broken up by a lovely breakfast at 8 with a walk around a market to buy some hand made gifts, and a lovely barbecue lunch at 12. We saw lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, zebra, giraffe, a huge variety of buck, a huge variety of birds, terrapins, tortoise, monkey, even stink bugs! And a very interesting education of the plants and how they are traditionally used! It can get a bit windy but blankets and raincoats are provided Highly recommend this tour! Ask for Phindi!! We had a 7 year old with us and he thoroughly enjoyed the tour too!

Heritage Tours & Safaris, Half Day iSimangaliso Wetland Park & Cape Vidal safari.
Our guide (naturalist) Siya was both professional and knowledgeable. We had a once in a lifetime encounter with an elephant bull, and although we didn't snorkel at Cape Vidal beach (out of choice), we enjoyed watching a pod of whales from the beach. Well worth it, Siya made every effort to find game, water buck, kudu, buffalo, zebra and more.
Sunset drive and Half Day Hluhluwe drive (giraffe, rhino and lion) also superb, as was Shoreline Hippo and Croc Boat Cruise. Highly recommend Heritage Tours & Safaris.

We had an amazing time. We did a half day safari with Zayn, who was incredibly skilled in spotting animals even far away.
We saw many animals, including lions and cheetahs, and the guide gave us all of the necessary information.
Would 100% recommend.
We also went on the boat cruise in the afternoon and spotted many hippos and rare birds. Would definitely recommend it too.

The views were amazing, we saw a lot of animals from very closeby. And we had an amazing guide, Yamkela. He was very friendly and enthusiastic and has a great knowledge of the animals that live in the Isimangaliso Parc and he loves to share that knowledge which was great. He does his utmost for his guests. We needed to be back at the gate before six o'clock in the evening because the gate closes at that time. However, on the way back to the gate we saw an elephant next to the road that was going to pass over to the other side of the road, very nice to see and Yamkela stopped to watch, even though it would be a close call to make it to the gate in time. (Fortunately, we did make it to the gate in time :-))
