Hyenas, warthogs, Impala and monkeys are on your front doorstep! Good elephant and rhino sightings. Had a breakfast picnic and on one day drove to the hilltop camp for lunch which had an awesome view. Very special guided walk one morning.

The 2 bed chalets are really nice. We always try for no 12. Everything works so no issues. We went to look at the safari tents just for interest sake and was shocked at the condition of them. We looked at 4 empty ones and couldn't believe someone would pay to stay here. Management should be ashamed to charge people, especially overseas tourists money to stay in such conditions. It's embarrassing. We also went to stay in Mkuze game reserve straight after in one of those tented camps and wow! Beautifully maintained compared to the ones at Mpila.

My family visited Hluhluwe Imfolozi park in January 2024 and stayed in a 5 bed chalet in Mpila. What a disappointment.
The chalets are in desperate need of maintenance and refreshing. The cupboards in our chalet were hanging off the hinges. The sofa was absolutely disgusting. Clearly not been cleaned in several years.
The mosquito nets were torn. The patio door couldn’t easily be opened or closed because it kept coming off the rails. The fan in one room was not working. The TV in the living room has nothing on it apart from a message saying satellite signal is too weak. In addition, there was no water in the camp so none of our party were able to shower.
The monkeys in camp are also ridiculous. They confronted my wife whilst she was walking with my young son to the visitors toilets.
I will not be visiting again nor will I recommend this camp to anyone.

Visited 2-5 June. Stayed in the tented camp. On arrival we were bombarded with moneys, any opportunity they were in the kitchen and bedrooms. People staying in the camp site should be warned, and given coping skills on what to do to keep monkeys at bay. The rooms were clean, and the bedding was clean. The facilities and the building is In great need of renovations and repair, gate latches, fly screen, zip up fly screen. Shower taps were loose. Deck needs resealing. We visited 5 years ago to a supreme establishment; such a great pity maintenance haven’t been maintained.

We stayed in one of the safari tents at Mpila camp, the tent and kitchen (linked with the deck) have everything you need and to make your stay comfortable. It was tidy, clean and the kitchen was well equiped. Monkeys, hyena and even a lion on your front step, as well as a Warthdog under our tent. This is a gem in a well mantained park. This was my second time in Hluhluwe and Mpila camp with no fence is a bucketlist item.....

NIce place to relax and driving around although we didn't get to see many animals on that day. The reserve is well kept and looks very lush.

Unfortunately the weather was bad so we struggled to see much on the first day. Beautiful scenery and land scape, we saw many animals the 2nd day on the way to hill top camp, which was amazing. The only minus, if you order accomadation, make sure you have shower and toilet as we didn't realize we didn't booked one and the share utility were in poor condition compare to kruger which had much better facilities.

This is a calm restful place to view wildlife. We did a self drive holiday. This trip we saw a variety of animals including lion, hyena, wild dog and to crown the holiday three black rhino at a wallow who then had an interesting altercation with a white rhino on wallowing rights. Travel slowly (15/20 kph) and you will see a variety of interesting small wildlife - coloured grasshoppers and lizards, small tortoises (beware they look like rocks in the road). There is an abundant bird life.
The Mpila chalet is very basic but comfortable enough, although it is in need of some TLC. The camp shop has very little in the way of food, bit does have some South African wines and two coolers of drink and fizzy cooldrinks. It also stocks some curios.

Basically the standard offering of SANparks or KNZ accommodation. Comfortable whilst not exactly without need for updating and maintenance. Some of the larger 4 person rooms looked as if they'd been upgraded quite recently but not so the two person rooms. But OK equipped to self cook with braai or cooker, plates, utensils etc.
But make sure you bring everything you need. We did which was essential as the shop had a couple of cans of beer some soft drinks, no food. Hilltop camp isn't much better so once you are in the park there is nothing which is very poor considering the number of units across all the sites.
