Stunning views of lichen covered mountains unlike anything I have seen before. Definitely worth the effort as an add on to the Panorama Blyde River Canyon route. We started early from Satara Camp in the Kruger and easily made Joburg before dark.

Nice pass, all the mountains here are worth a visit. Scenic, take a day to drive around all of them.

We were based in Tzaneen S.A. on a vacation. When I inquired about where to find local handmade crafts, I was told that there were roadside vendors just south of the tunnel in Abel Erasmus Pass. So as a day's outing in a new direction we headed there. It reminded me of Tijuana Mexico, but with different stock. There were... More

Well worth the drive from Blyde River Canyon. Road well maintained. Beautiful rocks shimmering at sunrise. Should have an info map of activities beyond the pass and distance. Locals quite pushy with their sales.

A nice little pass to cross over to Blyde River Canyon. The road is well maintained so drivin is easy here.

We travelled this route on our way to Phalaborwa from Johannesburg. My advice to travellers would be to stop on the south side of the tunnel if you can (there is space to park your car on the left). You could take pictures from here as this point gives you a bird's eye view of the valley and river below.... More

The Abel Erasmus Pass, as our driver described it, was a beautiful view "if you can escape the ladies to look at it." Indeed, the vista of the pass included a dramatic waterfall off to the far side of the canyon, but the only place to park (and walk back a bit) was just before the tunnel--a wide space on... More

Don't rush through the pass. Stop take photos and browse the abundance of curios and the like in the wayside craft market

A pass worth more than just a quick drive through. The route is dotted with stalls selling African art, with the biggest site been at the tunnel. Travelling through the tunnel from Tzaneen side, start to slow down in the tunnel, else you may be forced to bypass the parking if there is traffic behind you. The drive takes you... More
