One of our favourite wineries in Franschhoek
Feb 2020 • Friends
We had a great time at the Solms Delta cellar door. It’s the 2nd stop on the purple tram and we thought we’d check it out as we’d heard that they’re a community focussed place with some interesting and innovative wines. The wines were outstanding, from their headliner Africana to some amazing white wines to a personal favourite Hiervandaan, which is a Grenache, Shiraz and cinsaut blend and was probably the best wine I had in Franschhoek.

The tasting was on the patio out back and we had a great laugh with Martha who talked us through all the wines and the history of the place. Yes, the gardens aren’t as pristine and manicured as the big estates but the wines are brilliant and the banter is top class so it’s definitely a winner in my book.

NOTHING Enchanting about Solms Delta
Mar 2020 • Family
It had been 2 years since we last been here to experience the lovely picnic riverside but how disappointed we were. There is nothing Enchanting left of this once beautiful estate with its child friendly shady river side picnic locations. The entire estate looks left to deteriorate. The lawns are dead and not maintained. The riverside is destroyed and our kids couldn't play, even the vineyards look dismal with its produce left unpicked to rot.

The picnic was disappointing to say the least. The cold meat was 2 slices of cheap corner Cafe quality, the snoek pate was disgusting mostly cheap mayonnaise with flakes of snoek. The best part was the camembert cheese and the bread. The kiddies got chicken strips and chips served with cheap luminous pink tomato sauce.....

It is evident that no one cares about Solms Delta. It is so sad to see a once so beautiful estate is gone.

Needs lots of upgrading
Feb 2020
Solms Deltas outdoor tasting area is sadly really just a dust bowl. It didn't help that it was very windy the day that we were there but that doesn't excuse the fact there was far more dirt than grass and not pleasant to walk on in sandals. And the tabkes and chairs were past their sell by date with very few umbrellas to shade you from the heat. The staff were pleasant and the wines very good, but the tasting room and surrounds need serious upgrading.

Disappointing
Feb 2020 • Couples
Tasted and bought a nice Africana 2015 Syrah but overall the tasting experience is not among the best with a sterile room and uninspiring surroundings.

Disappointing
Feb 2020
This winery was probably the most disappointing we had visited. The service was slow and the wines weren't great. We should have given it a miss.

Wine Tasting and Museum Tour
Feb 2020 • Business
Enjoy wine tasting at picturesque Solms Delta. The museum tour is interested, but perhaps a little too detailed. I think it would be better if the guide limited it to 30 or 60 minutes. There were not shipping wine at the time of my visit.

Dissapointing sight....
Feb 2020
This wine farm needs some serious work if it wants to compete with the other farms / estates in the Franschhoek area in terms of its facilities and amenities. The place is small, sad, dry and dusty. The lady who did our wine tasting was very lovely and knowable and that is the only good thing that I have to say.

Great stop at Solms Delta
Jan 2020 • Couples
Stopped by to the try the Africana, and ended up with some Cape Jazz sparkling Shiraz too! This estate is much younger than the others in the area but absolutely deserves a visit.

Wine tasting
Dec 2019 • Couples
Amazing wines from a young winery with purpose that reinvests profits in the South African people. 50% of the profits go into the kindergarten they run and I’m all behind their cause (and all the great vibrant wines!)
This may not be as beautiful as other estates but it’s an honest and down to earth farm not to be missed!

Delightful stop off the wine tram.
Sep 2019
Stopped here for a wine tasting while on the wine tram. Our server was very gracious and very informative in presenting the wines. We bought one bottle of Petite Sirah to bring back to the U.S. We also made friends with Fluffy the dog.
