Whilst this Monastery is no where near its best it is still worth a visit. The architecture is phenomenal regarding where and when it was built. The spiritual aspect is very evident inside the Church with the faithful going about their daily devotions. Hats off to the NGO " Be Your Own Hero " in assisting with the renovations.

If you are in for off the beaten track, this is for sure a place to visit. We arrived mid morning and drove up to the church, only visitors and yes.... you will have to pay a fee for the guide taking you around. He will do the church, church yard, outbuildings, grave yard, refurbished maize mill. Trappist monks - this is one of 22 churches build in Kwazulu Natal province. Certainly a place for photography and take some time to walk and wander around.

We visited last year and were privileged to have a nun escort us around the mission. Wonderful work being done there.

My parents, sister and I visited the mission on our way to Underberg. Upon entrance we were greeted by Mdu who said he would give us a tour. We gratefully accepted and the tour started. Ten minutes after his tour (which I must admit was comical and thorough) he mentioned it would cost R50 each and then a donation to the mission. We chose to continue despite this being sprung upon us and felt our money would be going to a good cause (or so we hoped). Nevertheless the place is definitely worth a visit paid or not!

Still an actively functioning church with a flour mill museum down next to the river. The church is stunning, although slowly fading away - needs some TLC - but perhaps it adds to it's beauty and gives you the feeling that it really is over a hundred years old. May not be unlocked if you visit when it is not being used by it's local congregation, then take a walk around the property and find the Father, who was very helpful and welcoming, and he'll unlock it and show you around.
