A day made to remember
Pulling up the unassuming front door of Major Adventures in Underberg gave no indication of what an amazing day we were about to experience. Warmly greeted and welcomed inside out of the cold morning air. We chatted for a while and decided to join a day trip up the Sani Pass with Ellias as our guide.
With a warm smile that reassured the 3 passengers that we were in the best possible hands our guide welcomed us and we set off.
Ellias is not only a wealth of information but the passion and his love for his country, its history and the people of Lesotho shone through making the day trip a lifetime memory. His knowledge of the local fauna and flora and the Drakensberg as a whole, was absolutely captivating. We pulled up numerous times to see Eland on a distant hill, an ice rat peaking out of a hole, the southern bald ibis, African rock pipit, grey winged francolin and cape rock thrush to name just a few – He also took us into a Basotho homestead where we were welcomed and served traditional bread and we taught a bit of the colourful history of Lesotho - all of which we would have missed out on if we were not in the capable hands of our guide Elias.
So, if you are just interested in getting to the highest pub in Africa – then chose any of the Sani Pass operators or do a self-drive or tag along but if you want to hear the history and feel it through Elias’s stories then there is only one company to take you safely to the top and that is Major Adventures.
Thank you to all the welcoming staff of Major Adventures for this wonderful experience. Nick and Karen Sunshine Coast Australia
