It’s ok as piers go, the scenery makes the day but the pier is limited in offering. The surrounding areas are nice with great walks along the beach lots of places to stop off and drink or eat. Not worth a detour to just see this more an interactive experience of the area

Peaceful, and mezmorising. Try find this spot late at night when it is quieter. It can be a tranquil experience

Great for a Romantic Walk
Jan 2021 • Couples
Great spot for pictures and a romantic walk. Also great to observe the ocean or to read a book. Restaurants are close by, so before having a cocktail, it would serve you well to visit the pier first.

I think more can be done here. Lots of potential, bust whom ever designed had no vision. Seemed rushed....

We visited the pier with the kids. View was amazing and the wind was an interesting experience. Kids played on the beach and in the water.

Stunning

Stunning view! Kind of scary to step on the grids, but makes it unique.

Didn't see any lights at night though

We enjoyed a lovely walk on a quiet overcast day and the pier gives one an outstanding view up the coast and into Durban

Worth the visit

Visited the Whalebone Pier while waiting for the flight out of Durban. Great view of the Indian Ocean, the waves and lighthouse. There are a lot of restaurants in the area.

Whalebone Pier Blue
Jul 2020
The Pier is a welcome sight on the Umhlanga esplanade. The view is awesome and from the end of the Pier, one can see the beach stretching far and wide. The view in the early morning is fantastic with the blue lights of the Pier and the Sun rising in the background above the Sea.

Welcome fresh air
May 2020
This conceptual pier that juts out into the still warm Indian Ocean was crowded today as the sun rose above the horizon to reveal an absence of surfers for us to watch catching a wave a now deserted beach – the gentle breeze and fresh air were however a very welcome change from staying at home where we must be again before 9.00 am
