I have always enjoyed this shopping centre until my partner and I had an unpleasant experience.
We were sold something faulty by a thuggish Pakistani guy at Gadget Paradise.
Having reported this matter to a guy called Jason at the Centre Management office with huge promises to be contacted having explained that my partner lives in Japan and would be going back, no one to date after a week has made contact from the
Gateway shopping centre.
I contacted the President of the Pakistan Employers and he had some scary information to share about the retail business.

Paid two visits to this large Shopping Mall. Caters for every need. Toys, meals, movies, entertainment, groceries, banking, etc. Enjoyed a rainy day stroll with lots to do for busy
Grandchild.

Having visited most of the major Shopping Malls in South Africa, Gateway ranks as one of the best, within what I would consider as top 3. It’s big, really big, with about as big variety of shopping, entertainment and dining as you could imagine. The only criticism is that the Mall is so large that it is actually a trek to get fe one end to the other. The upside is that after at least 10 visits over the last years there are still parts of the Mall that I have not explored. If in the Durban area, pop in, it’s worth it. Highly Recommended.

Gateway is regarded as the largest shopping centre in the Southern hemisphere. It is located in Umhlanga alongside the N2 highway, north of Durban. The shopping mall officially opened in 2001.

Gateway is billed as a `Theatre of Shopping` aiming to offer visitors much more than an average shopping precinct. There are a wide range of shops, including internationally known fashion brands.

At the lower level are two giant supermarkets. As well as a huge selection of shops, department stores, there is a cinema, an IMAX cinema, a theatre, art gallery and a large food court.

Gateway also contains a surfing wave house, a skate park designed by Tony Hawk, the world’s highest climbing wall, go-kart track, arcade and children’s rides.

There is no doubt that there is a lot to do. When I visited the mall I was getting about 10 rands to the pound. This meant that a lot of shops were more expensive than UK prices. South Africa is not cheap for clothes shopping unless the international currency is heavily in your favour.

Jewellery on the other hand, especially in Asian jewellery shops can be a bargain but be ready to negotiate a good deal. My wife purchased some diamond jewellery. We also did some minor shopping and relaxed and ate at the busy food court.

I had a go at the climbing wall with my daughter and then we needed to have a strong coffee afterwards at one of the coffee bars.

Especially for my kids this was a highlight as they wanted to go to Gateway everyday. You will get everything you need here as well as watch a movie. Younger kids can enjoy the entertainment area with rides. There was a big LEGO land for the kids to play in.
A huge number of restaurants and all the shops and eating places stay open till 10 at night.
Remember where you park, remember the parking number as it is very big & you can get lost when trying to find your car. It’s a little tricky with a trolley or pram as certain lifts go up to the food court and it takes a while with everyone pushing & shoving to get in.

We have enjoyed movies at Ster Kinekor Gateway for the past decade and a bit- but, the cinema needs a clean up and better management. The price of the ticket surely should ensure a clean cinema! It's disgusting! Its a pitty we camnot watch new releases at home!!!!! The cinema and kiosks outside are dirty, I'll managed- the carpets are dirty and smelly- the air is stuffy and smelly- the process to order snacks is horrible and not worth the fuss. The cinema cleanliness is a health risk.

Surely Ster kinekor can find a budget to improve the cinema.

Yuck!!!!!!

This mall has everything and every shop and is huge. Access fro Durban or Ballito is a bit of a problem at the moment but when finished it will greatly improve the mall. Parking is plentiful and free for the first hour where after a nominal charge is levied. Restaurants are plentiful and am reasonably sure that you can buy most things that any one can imagine from the variety of shops. Love going there.
