I took my grandchildren, daughter and son-in-law to see what history there is to the Comrades Marathon. The photos, trophies, newspaper cuttings, model of the route and stories were just so interesting, a mind blowing experience. I won the Ladies Dinnergong Trophy 27 years ago and my daughter who ran in 2012 also won the same trophy and our times were within 2 minutes of each other. Both our names will be on the trophy and hopefully in the future one of the grandchildren will be there too.

Comrades House is wonderful. The gardens are stunning and well managed by its passionate gardener. The old Victorian building houses its museum and a whole lot of Comrades memorabilia.

Good for a visit. Everything you need to know. I liked that there wasnt too much either. 2 Rooms with all the highlights, perfect for a view. Just right in my opinion!

The photos of runners in action, either from or to Durban and Pietermartizburg brought back to life memories of many celebrated marathon runners tracked over many decades

I would have loved to have visited the museum - because I am Arthur Newton's great niece - and one of a small number of his descendants who actually remember him. I arranged a special trip from the UK to visit the Comrades Marathon route and museum. The route was fascinating however, despite knowing I was coming the museum had shut for a month over Christmas. What a shame.

one you know more about the comrades marathon who it started and also communicate with runners, you just realise that is not about winning the price its about being part of the race and finish which is a great experience. I really did enjoy to watch the race it makes you feel as part of comrade family. I always participate on the race day as the volunteer I do enjoy my self. you can enjoy watching even if you are not a volunteer.
