We absolutely love spending quality time with our family, and one of our favorite activities is having picnics in this wonderful outdoor spot. It's such a delightful experience, surrounded by nature, enjoying delicious food, and creating precious memories together. The fresh air and beautiful surroundings make it truly enjoyable and rejuvenating for all of us.

The gardens are lovely and great for a wander. A few relatively easy trails both in the more formal gardens and into the forest. Some areas with an ongoing battle against invasive alien vegetation, but mostly lovely. Some signage on trees and plants, but essentially a nice park. There is also a whole acrobranch area for those feeling more energetic with a number of levels to try out.

As a local, I walked every inch of the Garden with my lovely Spaniel. I would easily say we visited this Garden 500 times in her 14 years. Her love for life is a testament to the gardens.

Having read the mixed reviews was cautiously optimistic. My family (including our dog) had a great half day outing. We chose to visit on a week day ensuring an almost exclusive experience. The gardens are lush right now and there was a high presence of gardeners tending to various sections. Due to COVID, not all areas were open including the restaurant and the touch plant section. The walk around was very pleasant on good paths and plenty of space to set up a picnic. Lots of birds especially on the small dams. Would definitely return.

The kzn national botanical garden is a remarkable mixture of old and modern. There are trees planted over a hundred years ago, now in their prime, and there are gardens recently planted that show off a range of fascinating local plants. I've been visiting this garden for 25 years, and there's always something new to see. Paths take you into forested dell's and on lakeside strolls; open lawns give space to relax and picnic. There are various projects under constriction in the garden, so it can appear unfinished and raw in places, but there will always be something to delight the observant visitor.

Large gardens/park with huge old trees and grass underneath. Perfect place for a picnic (yes - it even has the ants so bring a blanket). There are lots of places to stroll around and work off your lunch. However, don't expect a fascinating botanical gardens that will educate you or a beautiful garden with lots of flowering plants. They have moved away from the lovely restaurant that was a central part of the gardens for generations to a smaller one at the gate. Although I have been to the new one about 5 times I have never had a really good experience there.

This. Is a pleasant place to spend part of the day. Some of the areas need better management. There are many interesting plants to see and the wild section is interesting.

Beautiful gardens, nature trail, a little stream flowing by, beautiful coffee shop. Play area for kids... It definitely makes for a perfect, safe day outdoors for families and romantic couples. It also has an area that hosts private functions. Perfect wedding setting.

The gardens are lovely, but not much is being done here. They are well maintained in general, but a bit run down in spots with some invasive species creeping in. No toilets and no cafe or restaurant which is a pity, but a lovely place for a walk around.
