Stunning, well mapped out trails. Accomodation was clean and in picturesque locations around the reserve. Loads of tame game so kids got to see Zebra, giraffe and a range of buck whilst walking the trails up close. Such good value and Candice was very accommodating on all our plan changes re Covid lockdown rules. Will definitely be back.

A hidden little gem, we were very impressed with the maintenance of camp sites, facilities, trails and the bush. Candice was the perfect host, booking was quick and easy, she welcomed us as we arrived, told us where to find her and her husband if we needed anything and left us to enjoy our stay. We only explored a small piece of the reserve and couldn't get enough of the scenery and hiking trails. The campsites are extremely well looked after, very private and have some awesome little touches. There's tons of bird life, we had nice encounters with zebra, impala and giraffe. We will definitely be back to do some more camping and highly recommend you give it a try.

We camped, it rained and it was just the best experience ever. The scenery, the flowers, the smells and sounds of nature just blew me away. The site was immaculate, the boma and store hut perfectly appointed, ablutions rustic but great.....do not need much more while camping especially when your site is exclusive to you and your guests only. Simply cannot wait to come back and just relax and explore a little more. Thank you so much for your hospitality Candice

I have been to Cumberland three times to date and I love it - it has a special kind of magic. The reserve is very well maintained as well as the campsite and accomodation. The trails are breath takingly beautiful and so are the animal and bird sightings.
The service is great from the first email sent until you exit the gates on departure.
The last two times we have had kids under 3 years of age and they have loved it too.

Despite the lockdown and load shedding, both of which are uncontrollable, reserve managers Gareth and Candice have kept this natural gem in excellent condition. The facilities were clean and the gardens around our cottage, well maintained. Game viewing was on a par with similar reserves but the krantz and rock gardens are really special. This place is also fabulous for birding and butterfly spotting.

Absolute magical experience. Literally did not see one single person, a dream come true (saw some people hiking from a distance). The Kranz Hut was wonderful to stay in, there's just something about showering under the stars. Would 100% recommend to anyone who wants a break from day to day life and become one with nature again.

We stayed at the Uzavolo campsite and everything was absolutely perfect! The camping area is secluded, private, and very well looked after and prepared! The braai area has a lovely view, as well as a nice table for dining. The outdoors toilet and shower were very clean, and the outdoors shower was a real treat. The shower has an automatic light that goes on once entering the shower which is a great touch. The spot is close to a lovley viewpoint as well as the gorge, so great for anyone that wants to go for a bit of a walk - for this I would definitley recommend having shoes as the area has may thorns :). For those wanting to braai a lot, there is wood provided for the Donkey (for hot showers), however, I would suggest bringing some more wood or asking Candice if you can buy some more wood upon arrival! We will definitly be back and I would highly recomend Cumberland Nature Reserve to anyone wanting a LOCAL weekend in the bush!

Magical place! Spent a weekend in the Krantz hut which has the best view, we woke up to watch the sunrise across the valley, showered under the trees and went to sleep to the sound of the zebra calling after sitting around the fire - what more could you ask for? We spent most of our time out walking, the trails were well marked and newly cut, there were benches perfectly placed around the reserve for a little break to soak up the scenery. The views, flora and wildlife were wonderful and in abundance. The perfect weekend getaway to rewind and relax.

We really enjoyed our brief stay at Cumberland. Candice is a friendly, gracious host who made us feel genuinely welcome. The accommodation was comfortable, and we had everything we needed in terms of facilities. But the best part was the serenity of the bushveld. It was just the break we needed.

We participated in a birding outing with guides from Rockjumper Birding Tours. The outing commenced at 05h30 and was completed around 09h30. The Rockjumper guide was an expert in his field and we were able to record a number of lifers . There is both Chalet and Camping accommodation at Cumberland which can be recommended for short weekday or weekend getaways.
