The beach was surprisingly clean, the town of Margate was very quiet. The views are beautiful, we took so many photos!!!

Probably the worst destination I have been to in recent years.
There are many areas where liquid is running across the roadway and it smells like effluent, so you don't want to walk through it in open sandals.
It is impossible to walk on any of the sidewalks as all of the pavers are broken or uneven. Manhole and stop valve covers have been removed and not replaced leaving dangerous holes.
If you need wheels (either as a mother with a stroler for a baby, or a wheel chair for an invalid) then you will be forced into the road with motorised vehicles.

Not a pleasant experience.

We traveled many hours and paid good money to spend a few days together as a family on the Margate beach especially with my 4-year old who loves water.
Imagine my disappointment to be told by the life guards that the water was contaminated by sewage! Imagine my little one crying because she couldn't swim even though she could see the waves!
I took a photo of the sunshine and blue water - but no holiday makers.
A quick Google search brings up a report in IOL on 1 March 2021 by Sakhiseni Nxumalo that the beach is closed. That is 30 months (more than two years) ago, and nothing has changed - the beach is still closed.
My holiday in Margate was a total and complete waste of money and time.

Beach was very clean. It is a big beach and the local clean-up groups makes sure it is a little free place. Haven't seen Margate look this great in 7 years.

Its so sad to see a place with so many amazing memories look so horrible.. Used to visit as a child, went to the old Mardi Gras in the street, used to enjoy all the summer vodacom activities like the fmx, used to visit the cute little shops etc. Now the place is sketchy, dirty and the vibe is completely off. It hurts as it was such a lovely place.

My family really enjoyed the beach after breakfast. Huge amount of police presence which gives you a bit more peace of mind. The beach was not the Maldives but that's to be blamed on the beach goers. Crowd was controlled.

Allround beats most crowded beaches.

During our stay of a week, the beach was very dirty. Although there were cleaners in the morning, absolutely nothing was done to prevent drinking and littering on the beach. The number of liquor glass bottles and kfc chicken bones and wrappers is appaling. It is a matter of time before the beack will be full of broken glass.

The place is amazing. Although the wooden pedestrain rails can use a bit of maintanance.
The beaches are clean and it is a great sport for fishing.

I use to love this beach but a lot has changed. No swimming allowed. Been at the beach since before 08:00 it is now past. 9 and the life haird has been here 2 times blowing his whistle to get everyone out of the sea. No swimming allowed.
I'm not happy.
