I am a tour operator ( Malekane Tours) and I brought a group of about 10 patrons with onboard. Whilst the tour seemed to be of great value, and promises to be for aspiring tourist, a couple things can make it even an overall pleasant experience.
1. The ticket booking system is too manual. We are made to sit outside as though we are at a bus rank, without amenities, chairs etc. Staff do not process the bookings as they come. They wait until the scheduled take off time and by that time the queues are a mess. We can do with an electronic system, Ticketpro, Blu Voucher or something similar.
2. The onboard PA system. Please invest in a proper equipment. Currently you are on budget using the rechargeable speaker which is not in good shape either.
3. The Tourism dept needs to be in conversations with the Parks dept to trim trees along the open top bus route. This will save you litigations in the future.
4. Improve on co-ordination between the driver and the guide. Its as though the driver doesn't know that his colleague is rendering a guide function. I witnessed in total disbelief how fast he took a turn past the much loved mural of the Zulu Kings on a wall of the Nicol Square Parkade on Dr. AB Xuma street. A tourist bus has an unofficial right to spend atleast half minute at that corner to allow for the onboard tourists a chance to capture that monument. You will be surprised what positive feed this will bring you.
5. Your one lady guide went personal with kids who were taking a nap on the bus and that didn't go well with parents. Luckily the parents remained the bigger persons that make them adults.
To the KZN Tourism, please give it one more try.

When are going to fix the PA system on the bus. It's seemingly a long term problem and a real downer for most tourists.

The bus was not equipped with the usual headphone system to hear the narration of the tour. It was broken. So there was a live person giving info. However, she informed everyone that they had to sit in the front of the bus in order to hear her. How could that be possible when the bus was full?! Therefore, we just drove around and had to guess on what we were seeing.
The tour was horrible. I should have spent my day in Umhlanga chilling by the water instead. It was a complete waste of time and no one in my group would recommend this tour. There were 2 stops - one to get a photo of a stadium and the other was for 30 mins in a shady area. Here you could go to the restroom or buy KFC or popcorn. I stayed on the bus.
Oh also, everyone had to keep ducking from tree limbs. Very unsafe!
I would not recommend this tour to anyone.

Lovely bus tour of Durban. Saw all the major spots in the city and it was good to learn about Durban.
The PA system wasn't working so it's a struggle to hear the guide if u sit at the back but overall it was a good experience

They really need to sort out the microphone/PA system. You can barely hear anything from the back.
It hardly possible to hear anything from the speaker especially when the wind is very strong...the voice is swallowed by all the background noise

Durban was a bit of a diappointment overall on a onde day vist on a cruise, but the Ricksha Bus gives a good look around the city. They only have one working bus at the moment and it is in poorish condition. The sound stsyem did not work in half the seats, but the guide spoke up and was audible. Take water, a hat and sunscreen. It can get hot in the sun! The bus does not stop apart from a toilet break and a viewpoint, but you do get an overview of the city. The start and end point is on the beach and quite a distane from the centre. Take a Taxi. The bus filled up and therre are only teo tours a day, so book or arrive early. Some people mkissed out. Overall, met expectations but not a must do option.

Having read the reviews before going on the bus i did not expect much. Boy, did we enjoy it!! The guide provided a lot of information we did not know. All of us have been to Durban too many times. We took the bus for something different. All of us embarked with plans to get more of our families & friends to try it.
The bus and the office were very ckean. Staff heldul & friendky. We assumed the security guard also kept an eye on our vehicles. Driving was good and the guide fantastic.

I wish they add more stops. We caught the later bus. Durban High Court stop should be added. Convenience store stop should be scrapped.

Did the 3 hours afternoon bus tour, the only one available.
Thoroughly enjoyable showcasing downtown Durban and surrounding areas.
We paid at the bus start point (Tourist Information Centre), much cheaper than booking through an agent.
I dont usually do bus tours but would recommend this one.

Tickets are only available at the ticket office about 30 minutes-45 minute before bus departure.
