We did a little shopping on our tour from our cruise ship. The merchants were friendly and helpful. But the mood outside was downright sinister and hostile. I felt totally endangered and dashed from our tour bus into the shopping center and back again. This is a very troubled city.

I only know it as Indian by reading the reviews. yes there are a few restaurants selling Shwarma etc but it is a bustling area that I found more African than Indian

take the stairs to second floor and get the bunny chow at the window. Amazing! we enjoyed the variety of shops as well. Only concern was trying to find the uber after the visit. It would be great if they had a designated pick up spot.

A nice feeling to be back after many years but one cannot shake off the feeling of being in an unsafe area. There are no police or security around. The vibe of the city is felt in this area.

We were on a general tour of Durban and our bus gave us 45 minutes to browse through this market. It was totally Indian in character and lots of the crafts sold were of Indian origin.

It is worth sauntering through the Indian Quarter to see the different shops and stalls exhibiting all kinds of ware. I believe you could get anything here. It is bustling with life. This seems to be the centre of Indian life in Durban which seems to have the largest population of Indian and Asian peoples and culture in South Africa. You could be forgiven thinking you were in India!

In the past this was the real Indian quarter. It was a hub of everything Indian. It had great pull in terms of providing the needs of the Indian community in Durban and surroundings.

A trip to town was an exciting and interesting family venture.

Today echoes of the past still ring however it has lost that unique feel.

since its not controlled by the governmnet like before all manner of hawker and street vendor has flooded the place. Its more African now than Indian .

Check it out if you want to.
