Horrible zoo, as all zoos are. The birds are kept in very small cages, and the zoo is dirty everywhere. The enclosures all have peeling paint and dirt marks on the walls.
How do you keep animals in such small enclosures?
Why do you have our national bird, the Blue Crane in there?
I even saw a fish dying
Animals should not be kept in zoos, in jail
Some of the parrots have been plucking their feathers out, they are obviously under stress
Why keep such big birds like the Macaws in tiny cages, they cant fly around as they are supposed to....are you clipping their wings?

Please do not support this “zoo” the animals and birds are kept in shocking conditions. The cages and enclosures are tiny and unkept. The animals and birds do not look well. It was a very traumatic experience. The zoo should be closed down.

If I could give it a 0 I would. Filthy, full of litter, leaves swept into corners and not picked up. Cages broken down and not repaired. Some pens full of concrete, looks like work started ages ago and didn’t finish. Names on signs with different animals in the pens. Large birds in small cages. It was a terrible experience.

The place is in a terrible state and is neglected. The cages are filty and so is the park. I used to take my kids there and decided to take my grandkids. It's embarrassing to think that tourist will visit that place.
I feel sorry for those animals
Very disappointing 😞

This is a park I spent alot of time at when I was a child and today I took my son to visit. The playground was alright but could use a bit of tidying up. The gardens were beautiful , but the animal park was totally depressing. The first monkey cage we spotted one of the monkeys was eating a lollipop that someone obviously gave him. There was not a single park worker in site monitoring what was going on . The birds mostly look sick and cages are dirty. Monkeys everywhere, like rats, digging in trash and taking the animals food. It really was a depressing visit and I feel for the animals there :(

The Zoo area was piled with rubbish everywhere. Birds dropping all over. Sick animals unattended to.There was a dead Blue Duiker decomposing with hundreds of flies around it whilst disturbed kids watched helplessly. The eating area at the park had filth all over with thousands of flies, not a cleaner in sight. The park grass was long and not maintained. This place should shut down! I had to answer to my 4 year old for two days as to why a dead animal was unattended to. Close this place down!!!

Please stay away if you love animals, and rather donate the entrance fee to animal welfare. Lovely flora but the animals..... There is kids kicking balls that landed up in enclosures, scaring the animals. No map of the "zoo", no signs and wrong signs at enclosures, cages way too small, animals generally in bad condition. A definite stay-away.

Mitchell Park is not only a park, but has a zoo attached as well and a restaurant. The restaurant/coffee house is okay. Their bacon avocado burgers and pies are good. Don't ask for their cakes, they are awful. The park is geared up for large picnics and for children mainly and has a large play area. The park itself is free. The Zoo is filled with wild animals, like crocodiles, birds and primates. Very well run and not expensive. The only word of warning is that try and park your car where its visible to other people and do not carry a purse or bag with you. Try and hide your valuables. The area is notorious for thieves and carjackers. They are quite blatant and you do not want to be wounded or worse. The police do not patrol often.

This park is managed by the local municipality. It has two sections, one which is free to enter and the other which has small animals, this is at a small fee. The free park has a playground for the children and a big park area for picnics. There is also a tea garden where you can have lunch. The animal section has small animals such as monkeys, birds, swans, etc. It is good for children. There is hardly any parking but you can park off the street.

The zoo hold various smaller animals like blue duiker, small South American monkeys, raccoons and various birds. The largest animals in the zoo are aldabra giant tortoises. The zoo has children's playground, a walk through aviary, it has Blue Zoo tea garden as well as a large lawn area for picnics.
