I visited the Botanical Gardens as part of a private city tour, but if you visit independently, admission is free. I was taken around the gardens on a golf buggy by Dinesh who pinned out the fauna, flora and wildlife in the gardens. It was raining when I visited, so I did not get the full scale of colour as one would on a dry, sunny day.
It is popular spot for weddings and I photographed some of the bridal party as I was riding along in the cart. As there are very few afternoon tea facilities in Durban, the Botanical Gardens would be the perfect venue for such a traditional pastime.
I apologise for not knowing the names of the trees and plants on my photographs.

On our one day visit to Durban we visited the Durban Botanic Gardens and as we had limited time we did a guided tour of the Gardens with Vishnu as our guide and driver (he drove us around the gardens in a golf buggy which was convenient due to some rain. Vishnu was passionate about the plants and he was very, very knowledgeable. I believe we saw all the major highlights including some hidden gems you wouldn’t know about if you walked around the gardens without a guide. We really appreciated Vishnu’s expertise and highly recommend that this is the very best way to see the Gardens! Thankyou Vishnu!

We were enthusiastically taken on a tour by a passionate, friendly Bot Gdns expert, Vishnu, who introduced us to fascinating facts of beautiful plants from the vantage point of a Golf cart. He shared interesting details on plants, birds and the history of the park with an energy that was truly infectious. He is a great ambassador for BG and we enjoyed delicious cappuccinos and home baked cookies at the end of the tour. This is a safe, peaceful Durban highlight not to be missed! The gardens are looking stunning, well-maintained by their staff and a gem all South Africans should be proud to show off to overseas guests.

We visited the Gardens while in Durban. We were surprised it was only supported by donations.
Seeing weavers flying around and in there nest, spoonbills and herons around the lake was great. Saw several monkeys roaming around was great as well. Trees were varied, Jackfruit, Cannonball and Cinnamon trees.

They have some interesting plants, including a ‘Canonball Tree’, as well as a lovely lake. There are well-formed pathways through the gardens and a small gift shop. You can buy a coffee and sit beneath a shady tree. The parkland is popular with local for weddings and post wedding photos.

Beautiful, peaceful and serene outing for the day.
Tour guide Vishnu was very knowledgeable about the history and abundance of botany at this garden.
We even scored a some excellent photo opportunities as well.
This is truly an underestimated experience in Durban.
Highly recommended to families.

Botanics has always been a favourite of mine in Durban. We went as kids with my folks, my husband and I had dates at the gardens and now we share this special place with our daughter. It is still so beautiful and well kept. I find it is a wonderful place to hide away from the noise for a few hours. We prefer this venue for quality family time instead of being at a crowded mall.

One of the natural beauties that can be found in Durban this approxinately 15 hectares of peace and quiet. Whether you wish to have picnic in the grounds (pre-bookings are needed) or take an awesome guided tour. This is definitely one of Durban's well kept gems. No wonder there are regular music shows being held here.

Durban Botanic Gardens has been around longer than most countries. An old world arbor and floral feast awaits anyone making a visit to these wonderful botanical gardens. Besides the amazing (enormous) trees and flowers, there's also an abundance of birds that live and visit the gardens.

Coffee is served near the gate and there is the gift shop with books, souvenirs and local wares. The garden has pathways and hidden gems waiting to be discovered and should be considered must visit for anyone looking to spend an hour or two in relative peace.

We visited the garden on a saturday around mid day and it wasnt too busy. The garden is really large with lots of lovely spots for picnics. The entrance is a bit overgrown, please dont let that put you off as it gets nicer as you go in deeper. There are toilets dotted all over the garden, and very well laid walk ways. It's easy for wheel chairs to go around in the garden. We had a lovely day and would definitely recommend visiting the garde if you are in durban. Extra positive it's free!!!
