The staff of this dive school are amongst some of the best I have ever encountered. They were really accommodating, and Aliwal Shoal is an amazing dive site.

Having dived all over the world and for many years in South Africa, this Dive center is a cut above the rest, especially for diving on the very diverse and spectacular Aliwal shoal. There is a relaxed friendly atmosphere, yet the training is thorough, the skippers top notch and Maaike and Nicho epitomises "going the extra mile" and what customer service should be. I would highly recommend diving with them when diving Aliwal shoal.

I dived with ScubaXcursion for 4 days. Maaike certified me with the SSI enriched air nitrox speciality. It was such a pleasure to dive in little gem in Scottsburg. Everyday, be it rainy or sunny, the beautiful Aliwal Shoal surprised me with its rich marine life and the underwater wonders. I have dived in the site Castle, Butchery, Cathedral, Southern Sand and Eel Skin. I love all of them. While the early morning dive in Castle and the last dive in Cathedral are the most memorable. The equipment in the diving center is very well maintained. Though currently under renovation and the whole crew are sheltered in a temporary area, the hot water shower are provided as usual. And the conversation over the coffee before the start of everyday’s dive is something that I miss from time to time. I dived with dive masters Danny, Mulle, Braiden and P3, all of whom were fun and reliable to dive with. And I did enjoy falling into the ‘tank of potato bass’ every morning, even though I’m still quite new and nervous to dive. I had watched a couple of videos of the boat launch in this region, but still felt a bit surprised how rough the South African dive could be. However, our calm and responsible skipper Ashlyn resolved it with excellent driving and skipper’s jokes. To be honest, I was a bit hesitated to dive in Scottburgh at the beginning, since It was a place not mentioned by lonely planet (haha, sorry for my criteria) and obviously Umkomass has a bigger name. But after all the dives in Scubaxcursion, I am so grateful that I came to Scottburgh. This is the place to be! I can’t wait to come back again!

The divesite: aliwal shoal is great for diving at a spectacular reef with loads of big fish, especially ragged tooth sharks (raggies), oceanic black tip sharks, stingrays, turtles, potatoe basses and so on. There are two great wrecks around and the visibility was usually above 15 meters. Going out n the rubber boat is alwas a fun trip, though if its your first time you should pack anti-nausea pills. You will regularly see whales and dolphins on your boat ride as well and if you're lucky also get a chance to snorkel with them. All in all aliwal shoal should be considered one of the best reefs in the world! the divecenter: It has been my second time diving with Maaike, Nico, Tammy and all the others. I came from Germany specifically for them, because in my opinion this is probably the best dive center in the world. The people welcome you in their family and they take care of your every (diving related) need. The gear is at perfect quality, the boats are exellent and they try to make as good of adiver as possible. The friends and my wife, I brought with me the second time were deeply impressed as well. When doing a course they teach you all there is to know and much more extracurricular stuff. I would give them 6/5 stars if possible and I will definitely come back. Thank you very much, Bastian
