I started chatting with Shelldon on-line February 2022 planning a trip
to Durban in November, we wanted to visit a game reserve and the Zulu natal battlefields.
Over the following months he proposed a bespoke trip for my husband and I. We spent three nights at Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve and included
• 2 Hour estuary cruise in St Lucia
• Emdoneni cheeta project tour
• Elephant interaction
• Game drives
Followed by two nights at Elands View Guesthouse with trips to
•iSandlwana
• Fugitives Drift
•Rorkes Drift
•Empangeni and Dundee

Unfortunately Shelldon wasn’t able to do the trips himself but arranged for @Paul Koekemoer to be our guide for the first three days and then @Don Botterill took over for the battlefields.
I cannot thank them all enough for making this trip so memorable. They even arranged a surprise Chefs Table at the lodge for the night of my birthday.
Spending time watching the big 5 at dawn and dusk is something we will never forget. Paul was a wonderful guide so knowledgeable and how he spotted the smaller creatures was just amazing (scorpions in the dark!)
And then hearing about the battlefields from Don who really brought it to life, so passionate and shared great stories with us.
Luckily we also got to meet Shelldon and did a great half day tour of Durban again so knowledgeable and gave us a great insight into this diverse city.

If you are ever thinking of visiting this area of South Africa I would not hesitate in recommending them to arrange a wonderful experience for you.

Shelldon was an awesome guide. He custumized a 3 day tour for our group of seven friends. He picked us up in Durban and on our way to Hluhluwe we stoped at the Cheetah Rehabilitation Centre to see cheetahs and other cats very close. We did a Game Drive in Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve in the evening and we did more on the next day. We always had the option to do something else or to use the open cars from the hilltop camp. Shelldon told us a lot about Southafrica, Zulu culture and the animals we saw. And we saw a lot of animals like elephants, rhinos or buffalos. On the last day we went to SodwanaBay for diving. It was an excellent spot were we got to see turtles and a shark! As an extra he recommeded a perfect surfing spot in Durban to us.
I totally recommend Shelldon as a guide und will definitely do a tour with him again whenever I come back to Southafrica.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. Thanks again for booking, I had a great time with your group, so much so that I'm now considering taking up diving! Hopefully you'll be back to South Africa one day and get to visit the Kruger National park. Thanks again Shelldon

Did a full day's battlefields tour going to both Rorke's Drift and Isandlwana, from Durban with Shelldon. Was an early start, but a very enjoyable and interesting trip, with lots of in-depth information given by a very knowledgeable guide. Had lunch at the hotel mid-way between the battle sites, with the delightful owner Charles and his wife.
If you like your history, I would fully recommend the tour to any enthusiast.
Many thanks Shelldon for a memorable day.

I am eternally grateful to Charles of Country and Coastal Touring! Here is why. I had a unique request and Country and Coastal Touring completely came through for me! I wanted to follow and meet up with my husband during the 2014 Comrades Marathon run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban (56 miles). I figured it would be an 8 hour day event. Because of my concern for driving the route (crowds, parking, multiple road closures, me not knowing the roads and not wanting to drive on the left) I decided to contact some tour companies to see if they would take me. Just about all of the tour companies that I contacted via email told me a variation of “No, cannot do this because roads are too difficult to handle on this race day.” But then……. Enter Charles from Country and Coastal Touring. His email suddenly gave me hope! We corresponded via email multiple times (he was very responsive) and worked out “possibly” meeting my husband in three locations on the route. Please understand that 18,000 people start this race, so finding my husband would not be an easy task. Well, to make a long story short, I met up with my husband “5” times (2 extra) on the Comrades run (Thank you Charles!) and learned a great deal about South Africa from the wonderful conversations I had with Charles. It was truly a memorable day for me and I really think Charles of Country and Coastal Touring was a paramount reason for it being exceptional!

Shelldon arranged for our small group to visit an authentic Zulu village a few hours outside of the city. It is not a typical tourist venue and the big bus tours do not go there. We had a fabulous local guide meet us when we arrived and through him we got to experience the manner in which the Zulu people live today. It was fascinating in every respect.

Thank you for your kind words Laraine. It's always a pleasure arranging these tours to areas less traveled in Durban. We hope to see you back one day. All the best, Shelldon

A great tour company. I was looking to do a couple of day tours from Durban in the days after the Comrades marathon. I found some difficulty as a solo traveller as not all tour companies were reasonable in this regard but Country and Coastal Touring helpfully identified some tours that I could join. I did a tour of the Valley of 1000 Hills with a guide called Charles - he knew the area very well - Zulu culture, wildlife and geography. The other tour was to the Hluhluwe Umfolozi park - quite a long drive from Durban but well worth the trip. Our guide was Shelldon and he knew very well where to look for the animals. We saw rhino, elephant, lion, buffalo, crocodile, hippo, warthog, impala, kudu, giraffe, zebra, eagle, vulture and many other species, including a massive spider. I am a vegan and suitable food was provided on both tours. I can't fault the service that was offered.

A BIG thank you, first & foremost to Charles Wells of Country & Coastal touring for going ABOVE & BEYOND all my expectations on our visit to South Africa, Durban, Kwa Zulu Natal July 15-25, 2016. Charles took care of us and made us feel not only safe, but welcome, and "part of the family", and for me, travelling with my mother (78) and daughter (8) that meant EVERYTHING. He not only helped us with customized tours to suit our familys interests and schedule, but when my daughter became suddenly unwell due to high fever brought on by ear infection, he rearranged his schedule to accomodate ours, and was more concerned about getting my daughter better than anything else. Without Charles, our trip would NOT have been as beautiful as it was and I cannot thank you enough! My children thank you, and are already planning our next visit with you at the helm of our tours! We will never use any other tour company in South Africa. The tours of Tala and the 1000 hills areas were just amazing. Phe Zulu Safari Park and our lunch at Hillbillys, everything start to finish was perfect. Looking through our pictures and videos its almost surreal to think how lucky we were, and everything we have seen. All thanks to you. :)

We booked our battlefield tour with Shelldon some weeks before our SA trip and it was our last tour before coming home, I was out of touch until the afternoon before the tour but everything was ok and Shelldon confirmed pickup at 6:30 next day. Pickup was prompt and we set off on the 4hr drive to Isandwala, the time passed so quickly as Shelldon gave us the full background to the Anglo Zulu wars and the characters involved as he drove, the guy is so knowledgeable. At the first site he went through the approaches of the Zulu forces pointing out the dead ground which prevented the British forces seeing the Impis, the deployment of the British forces and the errors made which resulted in the battle lasting only 90 minutes. We followed as close as possible the Zulu route to Rorkes Drift and Shelldon again went through the deployment and errors made this time by the Zulus, which allowed the British to hold out for over 10 hours.
A totally professional guide.
