The Golden mile is always golden...esp during the day when it is buzzing with sea swimmers n at night with sun downers. I love the place/ street

We walked from Ushaka Marine Park along the promenade to South Beach which is very nice and easy for anyone in a wheelchair. The views of the beach were nice.

However, we felt very uncomfortable at the number of locals in large groups sitting on the grass opposite the beach, watching us. In fairness we were not approached by them but the sheer numbers and police presence made us very wary and we did not walk the whole of the mile. In addition we didn't go on the beach until we got back to Ushaka where we felt safer.

Enjoyed my walk along the Durban beachfront - it is a long promenade— some 7 kilometres from the Blue Lagoon to Point Beaches. Only negative is that you do get hustled by a few beggars along the way - you have to tell them very firmly No then they leave you alone. The promenade is cleaned every morning and law enforcement is present every 2 kilometres or so.

Recently spent a short time (intended to stay longer but not much to do/see) on the Golden Mile.
Beach looks nice and not over-populated.
HOWEVER we were advised by a number of shop-keepers not to wander into the back streets off the Golden Mile as it was unsafe to do so.
This was mid-afternoon!!!!

Didn't see much in the way of restaurants etc so would check carefully before booking accommodation here. There are better places in Durban.

The beach itself is still one of the best swimming beaches in the world but the rest SIES DURBAN SHAME ON YOU the walk ways ,the pools ,the public facilities ,the entertainment used to all be first class but because of the lack of maintenance and care its become a run down nothing works cesspool. This is evident by the people hanging around there.the majority. there does not contribute to anything except use and damage and throw waste around. Everything has fallen into a state of disrepair. The buildings even well known hotel chains are looking sad and used like an old hotel room....shame shame shame on you durban town council...i will not bring any tourists back to the grotto mile...this could be as it was a great attraction. SIES MAN DURBAN TOWN COUNCIL YOU ARE DISGUSTING

Its so peaceful here, if you need to take morning run. Offer bike rental, and fun activities like mini town & paddle carts. Lots of food stalls.

This is a great place for an extended walk by the sea – the safest stretch is between the Sun Coast Casino complex towards the Ushaka Marine World with a wide walkway so social distancing is easy there are a number of coffee shops and restaurants to stop and regain your breath as it is quite a long walk if you do the full stretch – the surfers are back as are the sunseekers and I happy to say this is area is getting back to normal – sorry I meant to say the new normal.
