This is my second time booking Township Travel. I had such a good time and memorable experience with Siphwe, I booked him again. Township Travel offers several package deals include township tours and safaris. The pandemic didn't stop me from enjoying myself. Siphwe picked me up at the hotel, and took me on Alexandria Township tour. Siphwe gave me insight to life in township which is similar to my childhood years living at Washington Oaks and Cedar Creek in Sanford. Day number two, I enjoyed a full day on the safari. Siphwe is well knowledge and he always have something new, even for return clients such as myself. Thank you Siphwe again. All the best.

Highly recommended! We just finished up a tour and it was incredibly eye opening. We had the unique opportunity to see what life is like in Soweto (including going into some of the neighbourhoods and speaking with the residents) and other parts of Johannesburg. This team has a lot of knowledge and they also work with volunteer tour guides at various locations throughout Soweto. We will definitely be recommending this to other visitors of this city!

Siphiwe was really helpful guiding our group of 8 through Soweto, beginning with meeting us at the Apartheid Museum, and then shepherding us through various experiences in Soweto itself. I found him to be flexible (e.g. in this instance, we were able to use our own rented 10-seater van; though he is able to provide his own vehicle, too), responding to what we wished to see, but also utilizing other resources and township leaders with whom he has relationships. It seems he is empowering others to be guides in their own communities. This is a plus -- you're not just getting Siphiwe's expertise, but others he is employing to communicate their own stories. So, if you want a tour that goes beyond Mandela's house on Vilakazi street, I recommend Township Travel.

Visited Johannesburg in August 2019, as a family of four form the UK, and wanted to have a tour of Soweto as part of my own understanding of the apartheid struggle - as well as helping my kids to see South Africa's journey. I made contact with Siphiwe before arrival, to book a tour - we agreed to meet up at the Apartheid Museum and I'd drive our rental car with Siphiwe then directing. It was an incredible tour. I was a little uncertain before meeting up with Siphiwe as to exactly what we had/hadn't booked, but we decided just to go along with it as it wasn't too expensive anyway. I needn't have worried. As we were driving, Siphiwe outlined his own life in Soweto to give us context. He took us into Soweto, talking about the nature of the township with its contrast between areas where footballers and pop stars live as opposed to those considerably less fortunate. He then took use to one of the less fortunate areas where we were shown round by (I believe) one of his trainees. The fact that Siphiwe wasn't just running a tour, but was also helping other local people to develop skills in tourism, provided a benefit we hadn't anticipated. The only down side is that, rightly, we were expected to give a donation to the local guide (as happened 3 times during this tour) - but we hadn't known this in advance so it was a case of what money we happened to have with us at the time. Perhaps this could have been a little clearer during the booking process. This wasn't a voyeuristic visit, as it could have felt, but more an understanding of the way some people have to live - including the mention of "hacking" the local electricity supply to run TVs during the world cup a few years ago! We were also taken to the Hector Pieterson memorial and Nelson/Winnie Mandela's house with mini-tours at each place. Siphiwe and the guides couldn't have been more friendly and helpful and we have some lovely photos that they took of the family. I strongly recommend Siphiwe and his company for these tours - well worth the time and the money and an invaluable insight into South Africa's past - and present.
