The square itself is full of restaurants that lead to the mall. There is a big statue of Nelson Mandela which is a great photo opportunity. The square is busy both during day and night. Worth visiting if you have time.

An imposing statue of the great man looks over the square. The eateries, fountains and atmosphere are nice most times. They are good but rather costly. Shopping is also nearby.

All sorts of shopping but food court had great curry and fish got both from different stands. it's also close to where you arrive or depart on the airport train with shuttle from hotel.
Visiting Joberg on business it's often hard to find places to just walk. Attached to Nelson Mandela Square is a large luxurious shopping centre. So if you need to do your 10,000 steps.... very good restaurants in the square.
